I remain confused why GM is losing ground. The Malibu is great car, superior to the Camary at a lower price, Buick is one of the highest rated cars, Silverado remains the pickup that defines the top of it's class, the Corvette is arguably the best sportscar for the money, outperforming cars costing twice as much or more.

The new Camaro will be even more proof that the American engineers at GM are the world's best at achieving a set goal. It stunned me when we bought our Corvette back in 2002. It got an honest 28mpg highway with 2 people, luggage, and an average speed of 70mph. It blistered the local dragstrips with 11.9 second ET's with nothing but a tire change, and it tore up the AutoX track, cutting better laps than Vipers or AWD Porsches (GT2?).

But for some reason GM sucks at selling cars/trucks. Here GM, let me give you some help with the Camaro:

Opening shot, Aircraft Hanger at night, flashing red lights, and interior hanger lights. Nobody and no planes around. Fades slowly.
Flash to red Camaro SS ripping past camera at top speed. Brief shot.
Flash to black Camaro SS sliding around corner at roadrace course. Brief shot.
Night shot again. Headlights turn on aimed at camera. New Camaro pulls forward slowly and pulls into very well lit A&W burger joint parking lot with lots of hotrods and young attractive people milling about, and they turn their heads when the Camaro pulls up and revs it's engine...

Secrets out. This is what was in the hanger at Area 51.

426 tire shredding horsepower, 26 miles per gallon highway, classic good looks.

A modern musclecar for the new generation.

Zoom, zoom, zoom my ass.

Flash to monster burnout on aircraft runway

The Chevrolet Camaro is back. With a vengence.

That was beautiful Pat, I'm sold

Damnit! My mom has a 98 Trans Am that I really like, but, after about 45 minutes of tooling around in it my knees are killing my from hitting the dash at every bump and getting in and out of it w/ the t-tops still in place I have to turn into a human pretzel...
I really wish they would have done something for bigger guys I'm also 6'4.

I'd take any 02-present BMW M3 before a new Camaro. I think they messed them up bad. The front end is ugly, the interior is typical GM crap, body lines are too high, etc. But then again, I'm not right in the head some say:screwy:

In the pictures they look good, but once you see it in person I have to partially agree with yeah. I liked everything BUT the front end of it. It's just way to high for my liking myself.

I don't think they are in the same price range. Did they ever fix the engine so it would reach redline without grenading on the M3? Even back in 2002, the Camaro was faster at the dragstrip and AutoX courses and got better mileage, and cost less.

For this year, the Camaro has:

More HP
Gobs more torque
20% better fuel economy
50% less money

M3's are for folk who are impressed more with badges than performance.

I like the performance aspect. I think its great they went and brought to market. I cant wait for the aftermarket & performance shops to get their hands on it. The pointy grille has to go IMO. And who knows what'll happen when a few EFI tuned Camaro's hit the track.
But, we'll have to see how the resale is in a few years. I worked at BMW and didnt see too many M's in the shop. I personally prefer the feel of a German car over most others.

I saw my first one on the road today....I was unmipressed.
I tailed it for about a mile checking it out...the beltline is waaaaay too high and it looks like a 4wd.

I think they missed the boat on design.
