High sulphur fuel will give you that sweet turbo whine you want, and don't let anyone fool you
high sulphur is high horse fuel, pin it to win it
it blows more smoke too so when you blow those dodge doors off and your smokin tough, they'll know you really gots tha powa
we haul molten sulfur at work, so we have chunks of it everywhere....
if i grind it up really fine and add it to my tank will that give me that high sulfur fuel your talking about?:roflmao:

This guy^^ lol Thank you, That is what I thought. But This is the first Duramax I've owned. I've had 6.5's for years and if I didn't hear the turbo I got 30mpg all day long with a 5 speed.

Dude, that's apple to oranges. Your LMM has a vvt that makes boost whenever it wants to. Can't really go by what the charger sounds like.

Your best fuel mileage gauge is your pyro. Low pyro numbers is low fuel consumption. You can get excellent mileage with turbo whine or no turbo sound. You can't get excellent mileage at 1200°F EGT's.

^^ And this.

VVTs are neat. It lets the ECU decide how much boost is needed at any given moment, and only makes that much. In theory, it is the ideal setup. Faster spool and better fuel mileage because it only gives it boost when it is needed. The reality is a bit more complex, and a standard turbo can be better at some tasks, but VVTs are almost the best of all worlds.

What I think you are saying (and I could easily be wrong....................) is that you want better fuel mileage. And that you have a lead foot. So you want a way to know when the truck is efficient, and when you are just wasting fuel. Here is what you should do:

Get a good EFILive economy tune. This will have more power than stock, despite the name, so you can still blow the moose antlers off the dodge boys.

Then put a pyro on the pillar, so it is staring you in the face. Keep the needle as low as possible, as often as possible.

Edit: Pat, on a stock truck, wouldn't the best fuel economy gauge be the fuel economy gauge in the DIC? :joker:

I'll give Jason aka Caspmax aka HotCocoal a little credit. He has come a long way from the day he told me that lowering the torsion bars was for aerodynamics and would not in any way help or hinder the front CV shafts.

Isn't the turbo what helps theses trucks get better fuel economy?? Especially while under load? I am confused:baby:

High compression makes "free horsepower". Our trucks are low compression for diesels. So there is a boost level that balances parasitic turbine losses with higher compression. If you have no boost, you will have poor economy due to the low compression. If you have lots of boost, the turbine losses exceed the compression gains.

Turbine losses = Piston moves upward on exhaust stroke against backpressure. Residual gasses left in the cyl when the valves close has little oxygen so slows the combustion event and lowers the combustion temperature.

All an engine does is to get a pocket of trapped air and heat it quickly so it expands. The more air that is trapped and the hotter you get it, pushes the piston down harder.

A perfect engine would have compression so high that the air was liquid and at 0°K, then you'd heat it up to plasma.

Obviously impossible, but after I looked at our blown up Bonneville engine, I'm not so sure anymore... :D

I have an LMM, looking for a louder whistle. No I don't want to be one of the kids with cummins that wear flatbills, square toe boots and listening to Florida Georgia Line either. Just a louder whistle. I want better mpg's so I don't want to hear the whistle when accelerating. Any idea's?

I think you may be the first person to ever ask this because everyone is confused??????

Lets start with better MPG, try some tuning and minding your foot to floorboard ratio, or how hard you press the pedal to the floor.

Now for whistle, there is the Bubb Rubb option, but I think you would be better served with straight pipe exhaust and a metal intake, if that is not enough whistle you could look at more whistly turbos maybe a 4094?

I am sure you know what it is you are trying to accomplish it is just very hard for us readers to understand, good luck:dontknow:

Most people here are trying to accomplish more power, faster truck, better puller and sometimes better fuel mileage, any whistle sounds are a by product.

He is the last person who should be making fun of other people on here.

Listen man-
Muskratlove got all the answers he could ask for, for noise making mods and keeps on keepin on with weird ramblings that would seem like a need for attention and acceptance.
I've been here long enough and taken enough crap to dish a little out, and this cracker is way farther into deep space stupid than I ever was, I feel like I've learned pretty quick, although my grasp will most likely always exceed my understanding, that's called: striving for excellence

I don't think that's there's too many average joes that have accomplished what I have in the time I have with the little knowledge I "did" have just 2yrs ago, I still bust off a few dumb statements and questions, but that's because I'm still learning and always will be learning and pushing my own understanding while pushing the limits of my truck, I'm not afraid to break it or build up what I can and have the rest built by professionals and pay for the shit, so what's wrong with that?

You've seen me post dumb shit frequently cuz I'm always doing something with the truck and knew nothing to begin with, I still know nothing in the scope of the sport, half of the little I know is 100x more than the nothing that muskratlove does

2yrs....2 yrs form total noob w/his first duramax that was bone stock to a partial noob w/a completely built and trick truck....:baby:

In two years, we took the bastard child LLY and started kicking LB7 ass...

But I had a lot of help. In particular, some ahole who said LLY's could never go over 400hp on fuel...;)

Ok i have read enough... No helping some people... 30 mpg in a full size truck on just diesel!!! Best i have personally seen in a 6.5 turbo is 25-26 and it was a half ton.

This is a tuff board to start out on, we were all new at one point i am faaaaaaaaaar from a book of knowledge on the duramax, but common sence goes a long way.

Duramax forum is an excellent begginer sight for folks wanting louder whistle/no whistle, smoke switches lope tunes, rbp stuff.

As to coco, i think he is just a young kid with some money, but he seems to want to listen eventually. Im happy to help where i can to anyone but ignorance is frustrating to me. But i swear if someone asks me about a bottle test again on any site im quiting the internet
