If some of this is confusing I'm going to be copy and pasting :D

09/2005

Victim:

Casper - A month old 2005 2500HD GMC Duramax/Allison Extended Cab 4x4, shortbed. Factory weight (no driver/half tank) 6400lb.

First stop was the dragstrip to get the baselines. Ended up with a 16.7@80mph stock.

Next stop was at Mike L's Inglewood Transmissions 310 674-4400. He put a Frankie2 special trans together for it. Shifts excellent on the street and when racing. It is holding up pretty well.

Now to Clyde at West Coast Diesel Performance 951 674-5122. Clyde installed a custom 4" sidepipe exhaust, lift pump (Holley HP150 has issues, so we switched to a new Edlebrock unit available at PPE or WCD). We did the Shim Mod to the Pressure Relief Valve to .060", and drilled out the front restrictor to .062". We put in an EGR Blocker Plate and Finger Stick to control coding. Now we put in gauges (pyro, fuel pressure, boost). We used a SPA for the pressure, DON'T DO IT. It works erratically. POS. Next was the McRat Ghetto Nitrous. We pulled the passenger seat and made a special bracket to replace the seat. We hooked it into the horn relay, and sprayed it though a Super Diesel multiport manifold. Down and dirty. Clyde put on a Super Diesel centerlink and Super Diesel Sleeves to control front end toe in.

Next stop, Joe at Pacific Performance Engineering (714) 985-4825. After testing various stacks, we came up with using the PPE Hot +2 competition program, the Van Aaken LLY module set on the middle setting, and a PPE variable boost controller set to 32-34psi.

The PPE Hot +2 is a special application tune for racing, but it behaves surprisingly well on the street. It is a PCM uploader that will also correct for tire size, read and reset codes, and clear transmission tap cells. There are also smaller tunes on the programmer for towing.

The Van Aaken box adds a little kick to the big fuel the PPE sprays in. We are not sure yet why it works so good, but it at this point I can't find a better stack. Just these two alone are big power, but I don't want big power, I want MORE.

So we put on a PPE Electronic Boost Controller. This allows you to set your boost where you want it on the fly. We found maximum power (474rwhp) at 32-34 PSI.

Now a special TCM from Kennedy Diesel (715) 255-9433. This is a race only TCM that you will not want to drive on the street, but runs good at the track.

That's it. Trans, tuning, exhaust, nitrous. I worked a lot to find the optimum combo, and went through a lot of parts that didn't work to get there. I'm saving you ALOT of money and time by listing my setup. You don't have to guess, we have this setup on multiple LLY trucks and they all haul ***.

Now to the track! California Speedway last Friday. The results?

On #2 (raceweight 6420lb) - 13.04 @ 101 on #2 only. On the bottle with a .070" jet, the trans didn't like the nitrous yet (we are working on it, it's computer issues), but still squeezed off a 12.27 @ 111.81. We raped blown SRT-10's with it.

We believe this truck is the quickest LLY in the country, and it was done in 2 weeks from start to finish on a month old truck.

First big race Sept 24 2005 against Steve Cole of TTS 13.19 Pat takes the Win

Then off to Texas for the DHRA For the first 12's on #2 for Casper

R/T - .043
60' - 1.76
330 - 5.25
1/8 - 8.19 @ 83.64
1/4 - 12.89 @ 104.31

I then ran a 12.86, but lost the slip somewhere, then let Kat drive Casper:

60' - 1.74
330 - 5.20
1/8 - 8.13 @ 83.78
1/4 - 12.83 @ 104.36

Don't that suck when you lend someone your truck and they beat your time

DHRA Finals in Houston 2005

Well, the whole season came down to one race. The TS Performance Dodge vs. Casper the Friendly Duramax. The Dodge dialed a 13.70 vs. my 12.99 dial.

It was a close race, but I broke out due to a poor decision on my dial-in. I ran a 12.93 which was too quick to a 13.78 which was good for the win. But it was still a great time. It don't get no better than family, friends, and racing. There is not a better way to spend a day, or a season.

04/28/07 11.55 @119.60 no video for this one as Pat let me take LACR by myself as he was tired from getting him running

Pat let me take Casper to LACR for some shake out runs. Did ok for the first time out on a truck that was not drivable yesterday

My best was 11.556 @ 119.60 with a 1.76 60ft.

I'm going to try to figure out approx. DA I didn't bring my meter.
But it was 86 deg on the truck with a head wind.

Pat is going to work on tuning tomorrow.

This was with same tires he has been running. He didn't have time to swap the tires for me.

Well the best I can figure is a DA of 4620ft with 10 mph head wind.

But Casper is now officially quicker and faster then my car  The best in my car at that track is 11.64 @ 116.03

I'm happy with with how it ran and people at the track were coming up to me to congratulate me.

Everybody was running slow last night, I was the fastest thing at the track that drove there.

We knew the 74lb 285 KDW tires weren't going to work, but I felt it was safer for me to drive to the track on them, and without Pat there, I would not have had time to switch tires at the track nor would I want to

The track record is held by a Dodge at 11.54 @ 116 by Timdog's nitrous 4x4. So close!! :mad:This is the same slow track Diesel Power Mag used for their Western shootout.

05-04-2007 11.27 @ 121.17 for Casper & McRat Las Vegas

We made a couple of passes today best 11.27 @ 121.17

Big Jerry Jardine:thankyou:for helping Pat with the truck today

Also Tommy was helping Dad out.

Pat needs more fuel

Well I had a couple of chance to beat on Casper while Pat was out getting a new tire for the trailer Best I could come up with was 11.43 @ 118.59

Thanks to Dan @ PPE for taking the video and watching the hamsters.

Casper placed 2nd in ProStreet against Orange Crush

05/26/07 11.00 Doh!!!!!!! for me and Casper at LACR

We are on our way home from LACR. I ran another new best 11.005 @ 122.8x. I will post the slip when I get home.

DA 4200 with a nasty head wind.

Gotta love the MikeL new conv. made it easier to launch the big charger at high alt.

11005.JPG

It was street racer night, and Casper pummeled everything that pulled up to it.

Even the track owner Bernie was rooting for Kat to break into the 10's, but it was not meant to be. Lots of folk stopped by to chat about the Killer Diesel.

Pulling off the tailgate dropped the ET .04, but slowed the MPH down .4 mph.

Great racing with you again Dan! Track was slick and the headwind was killer, but it was a good time.

06/02/2007 Casper and McRat go 10.95 @ 124.48 at Famoso on #2

Thanks to Chris 'The Neens" for the Video:hug:

We still need to shave off another 0.5 seconds to be competitive in DHRA ProStreet. My tuning is not right yet. Time for more dyno'g.

We also have to do some weight reduction.

EGT's are still a serious problem, it buries the gauge almost the whole pass.

Traction is also a problem, Kat plastered rubber in all four wheelwells by launching too hard. Yes, I know folk say that's impossible to spin both front tires without an ELocker. Those guys should have come over an clean the truck for me. That stuff is hard to get off.

I talked with John at M&H Tires while I was at the track and he is willing to develop a diesel specific tire if there is enough interest. I will call him Monday.

Great to see the whole "gang" out there again. It was just like old times. The spectators were flocking to the diesels as they were spanking nearly everything that pulled up next to them. A 13 second ET is enough to clobber 90% of the sportcars on the planet, and last night it showed.

07/21/07 Pat and Casper win 1st Prostreet in DHRA in CO

Here is the winning run against Orange Crush

http://mcratracing.com/k/mcratvsorangecrush.wmv

Had a great time, but the DA was 11k and we needed an .047 jet of N2O to get up on the charger. In the parking lot of the hotel before the racing on Friday (TnT) we spooled the GT42 with no real problems and did some vicious launches until the hotel manager got pissy. But at the track? Could not get it past 1800rpm.

So by using a small jet of nitrous, we could get it up. Basically, I powerbrake the engine to 1800 rpm on the first prestage bulb. Then I push the nitrous button (in my case, the horn) for a split second. Suddenly the engine jumps to 2300 and you can hold it at any RPM you want without nitrous anymore. Kinda like a jump start. It ran 11.500 at 119.x with no nitrous during the pass, only to stage.

Micheal (Super Diesel) then helped me hook up a second stage of nitrous off a boost pressure switch set to 25 PSI. So when the boost hit 25+ it would now spray .073 worth of nitrous, which netted the 11.00 at 126.

With just the .047 jet, it ran 11.21 at 123mph.

Some people had asked me about different video's of Casper. So I kind of make a history thread. Still need to add the sled pulling video.

Casper retiring? That isn't going to happen anytime soon. He is in thief recovery mode at the moment. Getting a full cage installed. His just lost all resale value  I wonder what would happen if I stopped making the payments and they repo'd him? ;)

I wonder what the bank would think if they knew what was done to the truck

When they repo they have to give back all aftermarket parts since they were not financed.... There wouldnt be much of a truck left

awsome Kat, what is the estimated weight loss?

Not a clue  We will weigh it when we get it home. Did add weight though from the full cage.

Weight loss??? It might be weight gain by the time it's over. Roll cage, pusher pump, bigger exhaust, bigger turbo a few extra pounds over the 4th of july, etc etc. :D

What did you really lose besides a spare tire?
