Calibrations on dipstick are different for the shallow pan and deep pan. get a shallow pan sitting on a flat surface next to a deep pan. fill them both up with 7 .5 qts of fluid and see the difference in levels angles. Shallow pan is tapered where as the deep pan is flat on the bottom.

no matter the angle of the bottom of the pan, the fluid will ALWAYS sit level, as fluid always does. changing the distance of the bottom of the pan from the botom of the rail will not change the calibration of the dipstick, as it does not change how the flid sits in relation to the transmission. now, 7.5 quarts in a deep pan vs. the same measurement in a stock pan will sit differently, but that is neither here nor there, the purpose of installing a deep pan is to increase the total capacity of the trans is it not?

finally, if a deep pan did in fact change the calibration of the dipstick, why would a reputable company making them not include a properly callibrated dipstick, or at the very minimum make a note as to where the fluid should read on the stock dipstick?

Feel free to disregard anything I posted. :D
I made myself a promise to never ever discuss fluid with people because of shit like this. I thought I could bring some good tech coming right out of the Allison manual that gives the specs on deep and short pan dip stick calibrations. I was wrong.
Never again.

not trying to aggrivate you or scare you off of posting tech, or anything like that mike. just having a discussion about my oppinion and how it differs from yours. It would be interesting to know though, if there is a different dipstick available for the deep pans available from allison. if so, I will stand completely corrected. :thumb:

Allison does not make filler tubes or dipsticks. They leave that to the chassis manufacturer because they have no idea what the final configuration will be.
Allison does offer guidelines for shallow and deep pans ( Allison only ) as to where the low and high markings should be. They are different. Allison has no guidelines for aftermarket pans.
