so I have read and read and drained and added fluid to try and keep my temps down. when i first got it the temps never got over a hair on top of the 150 mark. since then I have put in a trans go jr and deep Allison pan in. now the average temp is between 150 and 200 right in the middle. so i guess that would be 175-180? today temps were around 85-95 and the trans temp got close to 200 on the bottom of the mark cruisin the streets, no boostin. I checked level when it is between 150 and 200 and the fluid is right at the bottom of the hot mark or a smudge above. less than a 1/4". why now is the temp gettin higher with the added pan? I have changed spin on and everything. just don't like seein the trans up in the numbers when before it never left the 150-160 mark.

truck is an 06 lbz 4x4 ccsb. level 3 ppe and tbe

Normal. Deep pans do hardly anything for temp reduction, they still get hot, but just a longer time than a smaller pan. Same thing goes for cooling off.

or better yet a cold check. where should the fluid be on the stick with the deep pan?

With a deep pan wouldn't you want to add extra fluid to make it read normal? Why you you add extra capacity an not use it? Sorry if this is a dumb question

you nailed it jake. the pan doesnt make the level need to be lower, it makes the trans hold more fluid without causing issues. at least, this is what common sense says.

to the OP: a deep pan will not cause your trans to run cooler, only cause it to take a bit longer to get to the same temp. the transgo kit could cause it to run a bit warmer, as there will be more pressure on the fluid. as long as it stays below 200 i wouldnt worry too much, or if you do, increase the trnas fluid cooling area. :thumb:

I wouldnt be worried till 240. 200 is close to normal temp when its hot outside. I have a factory allison deep pan with a custom air damn I built for the stock cooler. My trans temps dont get above 180 even when its 110 outside.

Transgo shift kit does not raise pressure. it diverts main line pressure into the C3/C4 clutch circuit which feeds control main pressure which is 100psi less than main line. The Transgo trim valves only activate beyond 100psi so there is no way they can raise temps. Actualy, under aggressive driving they would let the Alli run cooler because of better clutch clamping force.

Calibrations on dipstick are different for the shallow pan and deep pan. get a shallow pan sitting on a flat surface next to a deep pan. fill them both up with 7 .5 qts of fluid and see the difference in levels angles. Shallow pan is tapered where as the deep pan is flat on the bottom.
