TX of course
Love those trucks to bad they are ugly as sin. No sure why we don't have factory 700hp trucks over here. I guess anyone that wants that much just goes aftermarket.

I think the limit of US trucking is the allowable drive axle load of 34,000 lbs. That Scania with 2580 ft lb of torque cannot get enough traction to use all of it.

We have several trucks where I work with a DD15's making only 550 hp and about 1850 ft lbs of torque. The drivers complain that according to the computer they are using less than 40% of the available engine before loosing traction. These trucks are also running 7 speed automatics with 4 speed aux gearboxes and planetary final drives. The road rules in the US keep the trucks from getting enough drive weight to pull what the truck can pull.

Vinny, have you seen the Scania build thread on compd? It's a guy documenting performance builds for sled pulling & racing somewhere halfway around the world. Impressive trucks & def sound awesome!!

I will have to check it out, I usually only go over there when theres another viral drama thread.

Trucks sounds great. Thats right up their with a 3408.

Yes it is, I'd love a 3408 for my KW but they are ?????

Is this one with the "ultra high pressure injection"? I think I read something about it in Diesel Power...

Yes the XPI injection system that runs over 30,000psi. It was a joint venture between Scania and Cummins. They both use it now.

I think its pretty neat though how the cab converts into a sleeper nicer than a lot of trucks in NA but in a smaller package.

Nobody here wants it due to fleets and fuel economy. Most drivers on the road are nothing more than steering wheel holders now, give them 700hp and they'll try using it all the time.

The high torque/power is more for maintaining speed at higher speeds when passing or climbing a grade. At lower speeds its not useable. Most ag tractors in the US derate their torque when in lower gears also to protect the drivetrain.

Those oil field trucks with specs like that?

These trucks are nice and sound great. But how 'bout some pics or video of your 73 KW? That would be a little closer to home.

I haven't gotten anywhere on it yet, hoping to get some time to this winter.

My cousin has a 3408 in his 76 long hood A model. His motor has indirect injection heads though still runs good but we've been in search of a set of direct heads for a while. Their wasn't many of the 08's made their not very easy to find! 3406b or a 3406e are big hp potential motors with the right guy on the wrench. I Love the cat sound over a cummins all day.

the gestapo EPA would never allow something like that here. They want choked cummins w/ shit emissions crap all over it.

Umm Euro standards have been as tight or tighter for years. The new Scania V8s all meet Euro 6 even with 730hp.

Europeans have been using SCR for a lot of years so they have it figured out a little better. Many euro companies helped all of the US companies come into compliance even though the only one left on the road is Cummins.

Daimler uses the DD motors which use a lot of Mercedes tech but due to the flop of the MBE4000 they keep the mercedes name off of it.

Volvo/Mack/Renault use the same motors

Paccars MX13 is based on their European DAF motor.

Cummins partnered with Iveco back in the day to help CNH. Now they are out of it and CNH amd Iveco are owned by Fiat.

Agco uses Sisu motors in their products. The last of the Cat motors are being replaced with Sisu's V12.

Navistar enlisted MANs help in trying to get their POS to meet emissions.

I hate the EPA too, but they would easily allow a Scania, Europeans engineer things, Americans worry about their profit and play politics to get their way.

Nice KW Vinny, lots of potential. What kind of plans do you have for it?

Oh and nice shop too!

I dk yet. Going to be a resto mod. Nothing special about the truck so im not worries about restoring it to the way it was. I only paid scrap price for it but it does run.

It has a 335hp small cam 855, 10spd, and reyco spring ride. I really want none of that haha.

Had an opportunity to buy a cabover with a 3406a, 13spd and Ag100 air ride for $1,500 but didnt. Wouldve been perfect though.

I change my mimd every day on the motor. Someday I want a truck with a 2 stroker but I dk if I want that in this truck or not. Ill either do that or put a 3406 in it and crank it up.

Going to put a 48" sleeper on it for people to ride alongbin it. Going to be a show truck/sunday driver.

Im planning to make it a long hood in the process.

Probably do the usual show truck stuff, smoother frame rails filling every hole, full deck plate between them, cover behind tanks and in front of drives, full fenders and rear bumper bar.

I thought about chopping the cab, but dont want to get so deep into the project that it never gets done. I took on this p4oject as I figured it would take more time than money. I dont have a lot to bloe on it right now so I just want to keep it somewhat simple. I may just leave the motor and trans alone and worry about making it pretty. Thats the cheaper part that takes all the time.
