Mike and the Mustang are not new to the winners circle having competed and won Hot Rod Magazine’s Drag week the last 2 years. Hot Rod’s Drag Week is a grueling week long, 5 race track, 1500 mile road trip without support vehicles. Mike drove the car from Wichita Falls over 1000 miles to the start of Drag Week and then drove home for a total of 3800 miles.
The Mustang burns an alternative energy blend of 95 % synthetic diesel made from a gas to liquid process utilizing natural gas, and 5 % bio-diesel, this fuel is manufactured by Gulf States Hydrocarbons of Houston Texas. Jess Hewitt, CEO of Gulf States Hydrocarbons, manufactures SynDiesel primarily as an emergency generator fuel with 15 year storage life, as opposed to 1 year for regular diesel fuel. Hewitt states that diesel performance enthusiasts quickly realized that SynDiesel was a cleaner alternative to pump diesel and has a performance advantage. SynDiesel is the spec fuel for the SCCA VW Jetta Cup series .
