Exactly. Tahoes doent ride like a truck at all. Haul people comfortably, and still could haul a boat or smaller trailer if needed. U cant fit 3-4 guys in a crew cab truck comfortably and still have room for gear. But a tahoe u can. I guess ill never buy a suv and use it like a car. I have no need for a car. I want something super comfortable, looks good, and can do all the things its asked to do, and obviously vw, bmw are just like Toyota trucks, or nissan trucks, there exaggerated cars. I just dont get it.
Of course they dont ride like an HD truck. I said they perform and handle like a truck. Thats what theyre based off. Shouldnt expect sports car handling.
I guess i should remember this is a forum filled with truck guys that think of performance in straight line speed. Which the touareg/q7 will outperform the tahoe in by a good margin.
Hit the first corner and then you see their real advantages over the aging design of the tahoe.
Touareg/Q7 have true AWD which in this application is much nicer than the auto 4x4 the Tahoe has. The 8 speed is much smoother as well.
Touareg is rated to tow 7700lbs if you want. Tahoe is 8200lb. Both will haul most families toys except for some bigger campers.
Fuel economy with the little 3.0 V6 diesel is a little better than the 5.3 V8 however with the added cost of diesel fuel its not significant. Youll spend an extra $15 or so to fill up the vw but youll get another 100 miles in the city. Both have 26 gallon tanks tahoe mpg's 15/21, touareg mpg's 19/28
My favorite part though is how much fun it is to drive. Just like my jetta is more fun to drive than a civic. Comes down to the low rev torque of the diesel. At only 1750rpm the touareg is making 406ft-lbs. The Tahoe on the other hand has to scream up to 4000 before it can make 335ft-lbs. Horsepower on tahoe is 320@5400. Touareg is 225@3000. To me torque is more fun. My jetta is only 90hp stock. The civic fro. That era has a little more power but only has around 100ft-lb of tq @4500 whereas the jetta tdi has 155@1900.
You seem to be a loyal american autobuyer. Might think Henry Fors invented the car or assembly line too along with Harvey Firestone inventing tires. Nothing wrong with that your loyal to the US. I have no issues with people having opposing views providing they have an open mind and do see what the others bring to the table.
VW is not an overhyped brand. They are the largest automaker in the world. Their Jetta TDI keepa getting lower in price. Its a very affordable economy car now.
Please take a trip up to zimbrick with an open mind and drive a few of them. Ypu dont have to buy one or even admit to anyone if theres anything you like. But I think you might see the difference.
Pay close attention to materials and craftsmanship. Gm stepped it up with the newer trucks and went to the harder euro type seats. They missed a lot of the ergonomics though. Finger the dash on the vws. Finger your tahoe.
Remember. I like GM but I feel the Europeans especially Germans, do many things much better. Look at farm tractors for example. Fendt versus Deere, CNH or Agco, Claas choppers and combines. Knipex and NWS pliers versus channellocks. Wiha, Wera, Witte and Felo drivera versus Klien and Craftsman. Hell look at tires. While american companies were busy trying to bash new technology in order to line their pockets, Michelin , Bridgestone & Continental to name a few were busy innovating and now with the exception of Goodyear, they control the market. Firestone sold to Bridgestone, BFG and Uniroyal are owned by Michelin. The list goes on.
Im not going to say I am going to leave our country or that im not a proud American, but I really do hate the sheltered life our school system seems to keep kids in. Unless the really go on to study and learn, they think everything America does is right, and everything made here is the best. Made in USA is a markerting tool. One of the higher ups from Daimler said they have far more problem trucks coming out of their NC plant versus the one in Mexico. I dont think we cant do a good job here. I just think theres too many tuings standing in the way. But im not one for politics. Just mechanical things.
Im not saying the Tahoe is bad, just trying to open your mind up a bit.
