Thats what the truck is for. Hauling trailers.

If i bought an suv , I wouldn't be buying it for its towing or offroading abilities as thatbis what the truck is for.

Id buy one with the intentions of it being a larger more comfortanle way to move people. Id want touring car performance and handling. Not pickup truck performance and handling.

I love our tahoe. Bought it cause its a family vehicle and I don't feel like I'm in a chick car. Cc/lb seems a little over kill sometimes for parking at the mall or somethig like that. Tahoe is great besides we are a gm family. 98 s10 blazer (first and commuter) 2011 tahoe and my lml. The tourig thing is nice but to me it's like paying for the porsche 4 door car lol if you want a porsche you should get a porsche. Your buying it so I could care less either way lol just sayin :thumb:

Exactly. Tahoes doent ride like a truck at all. Haul people comfortably, and still could haul a boat or smaller trailer if needed. U cant fit 3-4 guys in a crew cab truck comfortably and still have room for gear. But a tahoe u can. I guess ill never buy a suv and use it like a car. I have no need for a car. I want something super comfortable, looks good, and can do all the things its asked to do, and obviously vw, bmw are just like Toyota trucks, or nissan trucks, there exaggerated cars. I just dont get it.

We were a GM family too. Then just got bored and tired of their stuff. Honestly I will always be a GM fan when it comes to american made cars but Ford is a few steps ahead of them in the areas that matter to most people , not us types though who care about the engines and how well everything is put together.

I really dont get the american mentality though that euro automakers cannot make SUVs. The whole idea it has to be a big box is kinda beyond me.

Buying a toureg isnt like buying a porsche. Just like buying a tahoe isnt like buying a duramax.

I wont be buying one for a long time. Id rather have the Audi Q7 but thats even further out of my budget. My fiance is diehard Ford so shell probably end up with something there.

I worked for vdub while going through college, and believe you me, Touregs are without a doubt the most unreliable vehicle they make. Dont get me wrong the TDI Touregs are SICK, when they were first built they had to detune it because it would snap every lugbolt off on the rear wheels.

Super expensive too, even for the v6 which still have a ton of options, but honestly, it just comes down to what you want...ehhh it all balences out you pay for what you want to play in.

Of course they dont ride like an HD truck. I said they perform and handle like a truck. Thats what theyre based off. Shouldnt expect sports car handling.

I guess i should remember this is a forum filled with truck guys that think of performance in straight line speed. Which the touareg/q7 will outperform the tahoe in by a good margin.

Hit the first corner and then you see their real advantages over the aging design of the tahoe.

Touareg/Q7 have true AWD which in this application is much nicer than the auto 4x4 the Tahoe has. The 8 speed is much smoother as well.

Touareg is rated to tow 7700lbs if you want. Tahoe is 8200lb. Both will haul most families toys except for some bigger campers.

Fuel economy with the little 3.0 V6 diesel is a little better than the 5.3 V8 however with the added cost of diesel fuel its not significant. Youll spend an extra $15 or so to fill up the vw but youll get another 100 miles in the city. Both have 26 gallon tanks tahoe mpg's 15/21, touareg mpg's 19/28

My favorite part though is how much fun it is to drive. Just like my jetta is more fun to drive than a civic. Comes down to the low rev torque of the diesel. At only 1750rpm the touareg is making 406ft-lbs. The Tahoe on the other hand has to scream up to 4000 before it can make 335ft-lbs. Horsepower on tahoe is 320@5400. Touareg is 225@3000. To me torque is more fun. My jetta is only 90hp stock. The civic fro. That era has a little more power but only has around 100ft-lb of tq @4500 whereas the jetta tdi has 155@1900.

You seem to be a loyal american autobuyer. Might think Henry Fors invented the car or assembly line too along with Harvey Firestone inventing tires. Nothing wrong with that your loyal to the US. I have no issues with people having opposing views providing they have an open mind and do see what the others bring to the table.

VW is not an overhyped brand. They are the largest automaker in the world. Their Jetta TDI keepa getting lower in price. Its a very affordable economy car now.

Please take a trip up to zimbrick with an open mind and drive a few of them. Ypu dont have to buy one or even admit to anyone if theres anything you like. But I think you might see the difference.

Pay close attention to materials and craftsmanship. Gm stepped it up with the newer trucks and went to the harder euro type seats. They missed a lot of the ergonomics though. Finger the dash on the vws. Finger your tahoe.

Remember. I like GM but I feel the Europeans especially Germans, do many things much better. Look at farm tractors for example. Fendt versus Deere, CNH or Agco, Claas choppers and combines. Knipex and NWS pliers versus channellocks. Wiha, Wera, Witte and Felo drivera versus Klien and Craftsman. Hell look at tires. While american companies were busy trying to bash new technology in order to line their pockets, Michelin , Bridgestone & Continental to name a few were busy innovating and now with the exception of Goodyear, they control the market. Firestone sold to Bridgestone, BFG and Uniroyal are owned by Michelin. The list goes on.

Im not going to say I am going to leave our country or that im not a proud American, but I really do hate the sheltered life our school system seems to keep kids in. Unless the really go on to study and learn, they think everything America does is right, and everything made here is the best. Made in USA is a markerting tool. One of the higher ups from Daimler said they have far more problem trucks coming out of their NC plant versus the one in Mexico. I dont think we cant do a good job here. I just think theres too many tuings standing in the way. But im not one for politics. Just mechanical things.

Im not saying the Tahoe is bad, just trying to open your mind up a bit.

I think people who want sports car handling should just opt for the sportier European vehicles cause handling is not the tahoes strong point lol however I feel my tahoe is safe and reliable and what I wanted

Oh I know those ones were. I think the new ones have gotten better. But i know the original ones were terrible.

Aside from tossing a dual mass flywheel our 06 TDI jetta has been reliable. I am aware of their cam/lifter issues and I think ours is in need. Like most people I took the "only use our oil" reccomendation as bs at first. Now I only run the 505.01 spec in it though.

The touareg diesel is 40-45k. Tahoe is 35-50k.

I dont necessarily think VAG is all that and a bag of chips. I just think too many Americans think far too highly of American made vehicles. I really hate tge lack of features and creature comforts in GM vehicles too. Even simple things like express windows. My old ass jetta has express up and down. Our LML has express down only on driver window.

I really do feel the American companies spent/spend too much time worrying about money instead of innovation. I mean outside of cupholders and other distractions what key things have we brought to the market? In Europe theres still a lot of competition in all industries. Thats why they continue to lead the way in innovation. In America we have the big 3 that control many industries. GM, Ford and Fiat. John Deere, Agco and Fiat again. Paccar, Navistar and Daimler.

U truly are in love with a bmw or audi. More power to ya. All im sayin is load the family up in a toureg, drive to south dakota or a similar 10+ hr drive pullin a boat, then do it in a tahoe being u thing there so closly matched and report back on what your riders along with u have to say? I agree, if u just drive to store and back many makes will work, but if u actually use your cars for everything including gm has lead the way for yrs. The hp/tq difference will shine on the tahoe, the bigher frame will handle wind and a load better, and no i wouldnt take a tahoe on a road coarse, it wasnt designed for it.
think of it like this, on paper a toyota truck pulls 10klbs, while in real life it cant do it goin down the highway. I will continue to enjoy my gm vehicles till other makes start to suit my needs. And not just looks. And im always up for a test drive no matter what make or model is available to test. My wife and i are always looks and new rides.

I also agree with your last post with american companies losing sight of some things. They need to get it goin again. Some of there stuff is very aged. I would like to see some new stuff come up here soon.

Is this a stock replacement or an upgraded version?

Slightly larger. VNT17 . VNT15 is the stocker.
