After 260,000 faithful miles, mine gave up on my 00 Jetta.

Ordered a new VNT17 Borg Warner. The guy recommended the BW over the Garrett as they were having more troubles with the Garrett's I guess.

$870 just for charger. The stock VNT15 was $840. Garrett VNT17 was $900. Hybrid VNT17/22 was $1250 IIRC.

Also had to get the install kit with feed line for $150 IIRC and I needed a new intercooler because mine brokeded the mounting tabs and is now mounted with wire. That was cheap though $150.

Turbo's seem to be one of those things that costs more when its smaller. The turbo on one of our skid steers was about the size of a GT12 garret and was $1,800. That's on an Ishibura engine.

I think the S472 I bought for my truck was less than $1000.

Oh well Im not butt hurt about it. i'll post some pics of this monster when it comes in.

I stuck with the 17 because they say the bigger one really needs a lot of fuel and tuning. I have some bigger nozzles but dont know exactly what they are. Have a big clutch though.

3 turbos wow. Generally it sounded like issues were from carbon buildup. Sounds like that guy gave it the italian tune up often.

Gotcha, yeah when they bought it, the automatic trans was toast and we converted it to a stick. Now its alittle more fun to to drive.I just talked to a guy that knows these cars very well and he said if i needed to replace the injectors to get the 1s for the automatic again because they follow a little more then the stick injectors and the car runs better, guess they did that to get the autos up and moving faster because they were dogs.My parents have a 99 tdi Bug and this 2000 TDI Jetta and the Jetta has gotten 58 mgp hand calc on road trips and the best the bug has gotten has been 46 a few times 48.So maybe theres some to that more fuel thing.

Correction it was 54 mpg not 58

I'd LOVE to get a Jetta for a commuter car when we move back to Kansas City but they aren't cheap and hard to find a nice one with not so many miles; I maybe looking in the wrong area's though .

It's funny how expensive those small turbo's are.

Dont worry about mileage. They break just as much/little at 150000 as they do at 250000 it seems.

Reliavle little cars though. Get a stick. Theyre fun to drive.

One with an ALH motor, manual trans and 200,000-250,000 miles wont be much under 5-6,000 around here and they last about a day oncraigslist.

That's good to know. I don't think I can convince my wife that 150k miles isn't anything to worry about with them, she doesn't want us to buy a car with over 60k miles :D.
She wouldn't drive a manual car anyway, haha

Tell her its not like an american car. German engineerinf combined eith diesel equals a long lasting powertrain at least.

Plenty over 300,000 and going strong.

My fiance loves driving manuals:)

What price are you looking at . The newer ones dont get as good of economy but are very comfortable and have more room. The DSG is a very smooth transmission.

All that she cares is it drives down the road and not hard to park. I'm 100% sure she would put gas in it the first time she filled it up being she's only had gas vehicles and not been around diesels before marring me! :D

We'd like to get a tahoe but they're so expensive when you can get a new impala for half of what a used tahoe cost. I'm sure we'll get a newer impala when we move back to the states.

I was mainly looking at one for myself to drive back and forth to work, so manual it would be . I'm thinking around $5k - $6k. That impala we had was a great car, drove it for 60k miles - 5 years and didn't do anything to it besides maintenance, sucks it got totaled.

Impallas are great cars,As far as the TDIs the automatics are junkthe 1st trans should make it 120,000 or so and after rebuild evey 75 to 85k after that a new trans is 6800 a reman is 3400 ,My moms had the plaentary trashed and some other hard parts so it was a no brainer to convert to a stick.

We are having a problem with it right now if it doesnt start with in a couple days it acts like its hydrolocked,it doesnt go thru any coolant, battery, altenator and cable were replaced.Wondering if its leaking fuel into the cylinders ?havent had time to dig into it and they bought a new to them 2009 Jetta so this 1 is sitting to be fixed so it can be sold.

Mine started doing that. I have a new starter and battery cables for it though. It seemed the starter was just week. It would never start after sitting overnight, id have to leave it in gear then go behind it and rock it forward and the. It would start. Sometimes id need the good ol hammer and a few swift blows. Also had it sticking on sometimes when trying to start it. Then id need the hammer again.

Yellow chevy. If she doesnt care what it is. Just find a way to fudge the odometer.

Buy her a tiguan or toureg. Or if youre really flush an Audi Q7 TDI:):)

Could get a BMW x5 diesel too.

Or stick with a boring tahoe.

Boring tahoe? Wont find a better vehicle in my opinion. And if its a loaded tahoe or denalli u wont find a nice suv period. Tons of room, ride is awesome and they look super nice. We ve had a few in our family to say the least.

I don't mind them. But would rather have a Toureg or Q7. Not as much cargo space but thats what the truck is for. The Audi or VW will outperform the Tahoe otherwise.

Out perform in what? Im curious. Hauling a 20ft boat better? Or goin on a hunting trip with 3-4 guys and hauling a trailer with 2 quads. Its pretty hard to beat a vehicle that does everything including the city commuter cars like vw. Or bmw. Ive been in the toureg, its more like a toy to me. But hey thats why they make all kinds. Everyone's different.

I'll find one, take the dash apart and rewind the miles

I really like the toureg but WAY to much for me. I'm still having a hard time looking at Impala's for $16k. :D
Those new BMW diesels are AMAZING. :thumb:

I'm pretty sure we won't be buying a tahoe when we move back to the states, it's more than I want to spend plus we're going to have other added expenses.

Thats what the truck is for. Hauling trailers.

If i bought an suv , I wouldn't be buying it for its towing or offroading abilities as thatbis what the truck is for.

Id buy one with the intentions of it being a larger more comfortanle way to move people. Id want touring car performance and handling. Not pickup truck performance and handling.

How long till your turbo is in? Any performance gain from the new turbo? Always liked the vw diesel cars, just never owned one yet.

It will have some potential for more with this charger.

It should be here this week. Not sure when ill get time to put it on though.
