I was just talking about that commercial today. The only problem with them is Volkswagen is about the most unreliable car made.

^^^theyre certainly not the best and have had a lot of electrical issues and timing belt issues. But its what weve got unless you are rich and can get a BMW or Mercedes.

My moms 06 hasnt been too bad. The infamous frequent burnt out tailights have been an issue but o well.

The only major issue was that the flywheel shattered on it and in turn took out the DSG gearbox. An expensive repair but it was still under warrenty. I do know this isnt an odd failure either.

Theyre still awesome fun little cars with tons of luxury and room. And the 06s 100hp and 177lb-ft of torque packs a huge punch for what it is.

That prius did alot better than I thought it would against that Jetta - or is it just me?
When they were doing the skid pad the prius did look like it was lifting a wheel... LOL

idk if i would go that far, i've had numerous audi's and vw's both gas and diesel and if properly maintained they last a long time.

change the timing belts and appropriate intervals and follow the other recommended maintenance intervals and they will take a severe beating for a very long time.

i had a 91 eco diesel with 270k on it that i owned from 200-270k and i beat the snot out of it and it always came back for more.

97 1.8t audi with 250hp (100hp over stock) and saw more time on rev limiter than anything i've owned and it ran like new when i sold it with 225k on it.

98 1.8t audi (brothers car) same deal 250hp/ 295tq and ran the hell out of it and sold it with 275k on it still running strong.

yes they have their quirks but so do our beloved trucks.

if you arent capable of working on your own vehicle a vw might not be for you because they scare most mechanics and dealer labor rates are outrageous

I wonder if you can do anything to make the prius faster? Better Battery?:spit:
Sort of like the kids do with the Power Wheels cars?

I wouldnt mind owning a TDI. My brother is big into VW's and echos what mainer just posted. I think id try to find an older model....I seem to remember someone saying the 02's were very good? My Dad owns a Prius, and granted its a decently built car, but I wouldnt own one.

Id take any VW, Audi, BMW, Benz diesel i could get my hands on :D I know VW/Audi have there issues but what dosnt? (i understand if its constant severe issues though)
I'd love to have a new BMW diesel:D

If anyone is seriously intrested in an economical diesel.....Go find an old 80's Mercedes
Like a 300D, 300TD, 300CD, or an 300SD. The 240D's are nice and real good mpg's but are pretty slow. My old 81' 300SD had the odometer broke at 299K miles and who knows how many miles it has but it gets me from A to B reliablly and 27-29MPG and it was a $1000 dollar car! Hard to beat! If ya know what your doin, they can be made to be reasonably scooty for a heavy 80's diesel with very, very little invested;)

IF anyone has M-B questions, feel free to ask!

Ya know what Id really love to find? A 1983 Olds 98 with the DX-block diesel. Had a friend get upwards of 30mpg on the highway with one way back when. Nothing like cruising the highway in a big Olds....

My Dad had Jetta Diesels starting as far back as 1985 he buoght the his 1st turbo diesel. Never had much trouble with them. Over a million miles on 4 cars. Most of the reilability issues are from the trans. The autos suck. manuals are much better.

I grew up in old Oldsmobile and Caddy 5.7L diesels:D Since my dad has a used car lot, he would always switch cars as his daily drivers. I was always trying to usher him into a diesel of some sort:rofl: He drove many Olds and Caddys back then. And were always nice cars, despite the known issues, we never had one problem! And the big cozy Olds 88 rode like a cloud!

The S-Class M-B's are pretty cozy too, and handle good:D

VW No longer has automatics. Its either a 5 or 6spd stick or the 6 speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) which is the nicest smoothest shifting trans ive ever been in. Plus theres no torque converter so your always locked in a gear.
