Just a Tapshifter, Eh?

a tapshifter that works properly in any 5sp allison is not just something you see everyone doing. 1 person in the entire country figured out how to make one out of scratch in his basement. 1 person! The other developer of a 5sp tapshifter kind of had a good idea how to make one, but as I've read and heard from initial customers, it didn't work as advertised. Neither did his lockup controller. Maybe they work now without the same flaws, great if they do. But Ben has literally no background in electrical engineering and he has developed these things out of pure passion for figuring things out. He doesn't rest until he is satisfied his design works as he wants it to. Has he had failures, YES. Has he made mistakes, YES. Is he impossible to get in touch with, Virtually, YES. But we are literally talking about 2 completely different caliber of people here....I just thought I would make that known. And regardless of who makes these widgets, they are not JUST anything. until you sit down and see how much design and trial and error goes into making them, you have no idea.

Absolutely not true. There are no issues whatsoever with the tapshifter except the enclosure that we were using. It wasn't completely sealed, but really didn't have any issues unless direct water spray was involved.

This is obviously a very biased view of our product and customer service. I've sold over 300 of the older version tapshifters. Very very few issues except for the ones mentioned above.

It's pretty amazing that when I was going through growing pains Ben was so quick to jump on me and our company, yet he'll have you come in here and put me down, and make excuses for him.

I've yet to say anything in any of his threads about customer service, lack of support etc. I've been there and I know how it is. Your/his maturity shines through.

There are 4 lines and two people dedicated to customer support, two global warehouse distributors carrying the product and supporting it as well.


Fly by night companies don't spend 10k + on tooling up a connector to keep the product completely plug and play.

Give me a freaking break Brayden, you know darn well that if I wanted/want to give you shit, Im not afraid to do it myself on my own screen name. Juddski is a good friend of mine, but I would never tell him/have him slam you just for my own benefit. YOU are the immature one if you really think Im shallow enough to 'farm-out' my heckling. :rolleyes:

Thanks Brayden. I might not spend 10k (thats an exaggeration, you know it and I know it, because ive looked into it), but at least I do 100% of my own R&D, designing, building, and software coding...I dont farm it out to some other JOE because Im too stupid to figure it out myself. ;) :p:

It might not be in a shiny enclosure, but my shit works, plain an simple. Your lockup controller doesnt. I have no experience with your tap-shifter so I cant comment on that other than what ive heard second-hand from people. Ive tried yours (lockup controller) and mine back to back on the same truck, within an hour of eachother and yours didnt work as advertised.

Um, neither do I. I taught myself everything, I didnt have any other tom dick or joe's holding my hand and teaching me how to do things. And Im quite a bit younger than you too, so forgive me for not having a business that is quite as well on its feet as yours. At least I didnt have to start my business out of necessity because I "left" my previous job....I started it because I did NOT want to go/lazilly cruise into the family business...I wanted a challenge and to try something new.

I do have to chuckle though....the fact that you call yourself fleece performance ENGINEERING....yet you dont even have the piece of paper to back up your company's name???? :confused:

And, fwiw, I had a tap-shifter working before you did. I posted about it way back in late 2006. Well, you came huffing and puffing into the thread with "OH, WE HAD THAT WORKING A WHILE AGO". BFD. You didnt post about it, so as far as the rest of the world is concerned, I was the first to figure it out.

To answer the original question...

I do not make just an "unlock only" switch anymore. I did not sell enough of them to justify the cost of production...

Look for new features to be added to the current lineup of products though. I have them done, but I dont want to actually announce them until I have a pile of them ready to ship out...Ill be the first person to admit that I am pretty bad about announcing a product, showing a prototype, and getting everyone all excited about it...and then a month later, still not actually having a production model ready for sale. But then again I feel like every aftermarket parts company does that... :eek:
