Takes forever for truck heat to get warm

I have the 02 LB7 and have noticed lately that the truck takes forever to get warm on the inside. Granted, in Michigan here, it's been sub 0 for the past few weeks, but still, it's been doing it for a while. I have a winter front cover on, and park in a garage that stays around 40 degrees. When I go to work, I park in an underground parking ramp. The only time it's out in the cold, is when it's being driven. Still, on my 45 minute drive to work, the heat never really gets warm. It's enough to take the nip out of the air, but that's it. I've even tried plugging It in, in the garage, and still get the same chilly results. What's going on?

LB7s are naturally cold-blooded, but have you ever changed the thermostats? They do get tired after a while. Mine does the same thing yours does, and the Tstats are on my list of to-dos.

Gotta like -13* in the AM to wake you up, eh? :roflmao: Where are you in Mid-Mitten? Im in Lansing.

^^^ Nailed it, this is your best bet, I had the same thing happen on mine and as soon as I changed thermostats it would actually go above 140*.
Plugging it in is always a good idea especially if you are in the 20's or below. And I always let mine warm up for 15 mins so when I do go to drive it the temps shoot up a lot quicker.

And only use OEM or AC DELCO stats. I've put in ones from NAPA and they were actually worse than the stuck open ones I took out. The aftermarket stats don't have seals around the thermostat poppet, and it doesn't close off enough coolant flow to keep heat at idle.

I'm alright.

The question is...does the gauge on the cluster read like the coolant is actually warming up? Or does the gauge not move? If the gauge is working but the air never gets warm, then you are looking at potential blend door issues and not thermostats.

I drive from my home in Owosso, to work in Lansing daily! :)

It's a small world, eh? :thumb:

And no, I haven't checked the thermostats... what's all required in that process of changing them?

I know one thing for sure, the plastic shield under the glovebox that squeaks the entire time i'm drivingm is like a bug in the brain, and if that is part of the issue, I'll have it changed this weekend.

The gauge will move a little, but not too much at all...
some days, like today, when the drive this morning never got any warmer than -8, it got a hair above 140, but the cab never really felt to get any warmer then when I got in it, in my garage at 34 degrees.

Good thermostats and a fast idle switch, with the grill cover on, and I can have heat melting the snow & ice off my windshield in about 10 minutes of idling. Temp gauge is usually around 140-150 by the time I get in the truck, and in the 180's about 4-5 miles down the road.

This is in the cold weather of winter Wyoming.
