T bolts

Anyone ever used these T bolts? About to order all manner of stuff from HSP and like the black ones these people have.

They are out of stock but it doesn't look to me like there is much clamping adjustability. Looks like you can only clamp them 1/8" tighter lol

I would be a little concerned that after time they would cut into the boot with no ability to expand and contract with heat. The spring type T-bolts would be my choice, they're just not "pretty" and do what they're designed to do, expand and contract with heat and maintain the correct amount of tension on the boot... :woott:

Neat idea. I wonder how you determine what size to order? Halfway between OD and ID of whatever hose you're clamping?

Not sure I was going to give them a call and see what they suggest maybe have Dave at HSP mike out a boot that's tightened down. I was just looking at regular old t bolt clamps that were black and stumbled across these.

Wow, I've been using the T-bolt clamps all wrong then lol. I crank them down until the spring coil binds, then tighten it up good. Still blow a boot off from time to time ???

Same here. I literally have to have my bolts as tight as I can get them otherwise I get annoying high pitch leaks.

I hate the spring t-bolt clamps. I always use the regular ones. Zero blown boots for me.

The clamp you posted looks beefier than the ones I use. I am using the ones on the right:

The ones he posted the picture of are BD heavy duty clamps. I've been using the middle style in your picture for a long time, and I've never had a boot get cut by the clamp.

Dave, I have had trouble with the far right ones years ago. If those are truly what your using I would consider switching to something else.

The one on the far right has no "edge" on the bridge piece between the eyes of the strap. The middle one has the "edge" piece. That seems to stiffen that bridge up tremendously and I haven't had issues since. I still blow a boot every now and then. But no problems with clamps leaking, or the hose blowing loose from the tube anymore.

Go down to CVS, Walgreens and by a can of cheap hairspray, spray some on the inside of the boot, let it dry for a minute then install the boot. No more blown off or leaky boots....

My turbo to pipe boot used to blow off till I bought some Mishimoto boots, much beefier boot than the stock and have not had one blow off since. Their boots are great, the clamps are junk compared to the OEM clamps..

I don't know that that's wrong. I think the spring is just to make sure that it stays tight if it contracts little bit. I did some searching before I installed my turbo and everything I saw had a suggested torque spec of 60-80 inch pounds. Which is more than enough to compress the spring.

After my tube blew off and broke my brake reservoir I went to the local hardware store and got one of the 1/4 turnbuckles and some all thread probably about $11.
I also put a fat Bead of weld around the end of the intercooler tube to give the clamp something to bite against. This is on my 83 c10 swap and I didn't have a bead roller.

More surface area = less clamping force, but if you have a bead rolled it might keep the clamp from rocking over the bead.
