Swapping on bigger nozzles

Has anyone just swapped on bigger nozzles without having them balance afterwards? I know the correct way is to have the injectors balance after installing new nozzles, but trying to do a budget build and my injectors are in good condition. Looking to go up to 100-150% over size on a LBZ. Thanks for any input!

you're well beyond the size that I did, but I can tell you that I did 40 over LBZ nozzles on my LMM bodies, and just swapped them right over after Extrude Hone opened them up. No issues - 3yrs + so far.

I really only need enough fuel for 800hp, but would be nice to keep pulse width down and have room to grow in the future if need be.

Plenty of people have done it. Doesn't mean it's necessarily the best idea but it might not be the end of the world either.

If the nozzles are flowed and made the same there probably isn’t much issue. But if some are 95% and others 110% might not be good. I sent a set off to a company and had them done 60% over for $200 they were all within 10% and balance rates are great. That truck was built for 650hp.

All 8. IIRC that was the biggest they would go, anything bigger you would send all 8 injectors and they would flow match them for $1000.


Edit. It was $280 to have the nozzles done.

Extrude Hone in irwin PA is running a sale at $10/nozzle.

I have used 4 different sets of nozzles from extrude hone without any problems. From 40% all the way up to 180%. From 600rwhp to 1200ish. They all were swapped without balancing onto extremely healthy injectors that I had owned and controlled since day 1 though.

I wouldn’t do extrude hone unless the injectors were almost new with even rates. Mine weren’t and they didn’t work out that well for me.

Mine were old used second hand tips and I went extrude hone 40 over - they’ve been great for years. Just had another set done and need to still install them.

I had a set of very low mile exergy 100 overs. Took a chance and went to 200 over nozzles and it didn't work out in my favor. Now I'm stuck with another bill to get them fixed. I would suggest having them done the right way. I took a chance and it bit me.

We used to hone tips all the time before the craze of running monster injectors. 30%-40% tips done by extrude honing and they always worked great. $200.00-300.00 and never had or heard of any problems.

As stated, most honing companies will not go over 60% so i didn't have any experience with just tips of the larger than that.

Some on the forums started saying that the only way to run bigger injectors was to spend big dollars or your engine would blow up. Then this view caught on, and became the norm. I say B.S. to that view based on my personal experiences with the smaller sizes.

I had one injector go bad on my pull truck and just bought one new LB7 injector from GM and swapped the 150% nozzle on and balance rates came right back in and never had any issues. Dang, I'm really on the fence with what to do now...,

I’ve swapped 100%. Nozzles on a couple budget trucks with zero issue. I wounding be scared of it if I have a good set to start with
