Alright so I got an AUX fuel tank from my dad (gravity fed) and i went to go plumb it into the vent line on the filler neck.

it was one of those vacuum lines, which was weird...thought it was a little small.

anyways fastforward >> fuel wasnt going in the tank, couldnt figure out why blah blah blah. ended up cutting the vent line and going closer thinking i went to far and still didnt work.

i usually work for 14 days in a row driving 45 miles a day everyday.

so on my last day where i was driving home. i hear howling and grinding and whatever else. thought my tcase or front diff was going/gone because they are both leaking haha. maybe they are gone i havent checked.

but yeah that vent line was going right to my diff. so i had a diff right full of diesel for 2 weeks.

havent opened it up yet or anything, just opened the inspection plug and had oil/diesel pouring out.

what do you think ill have to replace?

lesson learned indeed..

:banghead: Gonna have to open it up and see. More then likely every bearing for sure, maybe ring and pinion too. Bet you won't do that again :poke:

Lol, no I won't be doing that again. I don't know why it's vented to the filler neck, that's goofy.

I would probably be better off just getting a used rear end maybe? I bet this one is nice and clean everywhere haha

I think on my truck the diff vent was attached to the filler neck, but not vented into it. Your not going to get water into it very easy there I guess.

That sucks though:(

So your rear end breather tube was vented to your fuel tank filler neck before you got in there messing around?

Yeah, the vacuum line was setup right beside the neck, I just assumed it went into the tank lol. I assume that isn't stock.

And definitely not going to get any water in there

There is a kit from Northern Tool by RCS that taps your transfer tank into the actaul filler neck. Thinkin $75 and works like a charm. Comes with everything and you never hve to shut it off unless you are filling up.

Probably look into that after I deal with this disaster haha.

I'm wondering if diesel would really dicker my seals up. I will pull my drain plug and see if I have shavings or what's the deal. Probably need a new pinion and what not.

just go to any hardware and buy a double 2inch hose connector (steel) and a fitting, and have somebody weld it on. thats what I did and cost me 15dollars

That rig I put in, had a check ball setup where it went into the filler neck so it would close off when the fuel level got that high. Guess to keep it from using the cap as the final seal. It works great for someone not wanting to make their own stuff.

I'm going to look into that, I've overfilled mine a few times and it is infuriating. Thanks Harbin.

pop the cover off and see how bad it is. My buddy blew his rear end and we found a used one on craigslist for $400. Shitty that that happened but could be a lot worse
