Stupid Dishwasher power card question

If your wiring it direct to a plug.
The white or neutral wire connects to the silver side of the outlet, and the black or hot wire connects to the brass side of the outlet.

My husband is a tard.
He has to make a cord for a dishwasher since it did not come with one.
The outlet is a 3-prong outlet with a ground:
The "0" is the ground, he needs to know if the "long blade" is neutral or is it hot?

Home Depot has the right cords, just another way to make a dollar off us, next thing they will sell seperate is the racks and door
just stick a multi-meter from ground to either of the prongs to test. Doesn't matter which side is suposed to be hot I have seen more houses wired wrong than correctly
Thanks for the help. I used the "long" slot as neutral and verified the outlet was correct with a "socketcheckerthingy".

Kat Im 99.8% sure the shorter slot is hot. Long one is neutral, and obviously the round one is ground.
I figure if the truck breaks down I can scavenge parts off the dishwasher.
