Hey so i am in the process of building a water to air for my DD. I know its overkill and whatnot but I have wanted to make one for a while so I am moving along at a slow pace but plan to have it finished by end of the winter.

Parts i have are:

frozenboost Type 17 w/a exchanger
3.5" tubing
bosch cobra water pump

I am unsure about the water pump as that is my main area of concern for reliable use. I have been looking into using a water pump from a volkswagon mk3 as it is a self contained unit that it belt driven. The cover would need to be modded or remade which I am able to do. The other option is a Meizere mechanical remote mount pump.

I am just looking for feedback or suggestions on the pump aspect of the build. I would prefer mechanical for reliability and cost but if there is better options i am all ears.

I would ask HSP, Russ (RPM motorsports), and YellowJacket what they think. I believe they have experience with w/a setups.

Pretty much every setup i have seen uses the Bosch pump which i have but i don't want to have an electric pump due to it not being guaranteed to last a long time. Ill have to call Meziere and quiz them about the mechanical pump thy sell.

Electric pumps work awesome for 90% of pullers but the run time on the pump is minimal in reality. So not sure who to ask but the pump builders themselves. Like someone stated earlier, what do the Roush sc kits and others use?

What Meziere pump do you use on the Mercedes and how are the electric pumps run? Just with a relay? Or a PWM control? The main reason I want to run a mechanical is simplicity with no worries about electrical to go bad. I would just fab out a mounting bracket and machine up a pulley to run off the serp belt.

Or how big off a Heat exchanger? I have most of the parts for my A/W but the pump and Heat exchanger. Mine will get used everyday and tow heavy, so I have been hesitant to finish mine due to it give out on me in the middle of nowhere.

I forgot to mention that i bought a triple pass rad that i think is 30" x 17" x 2.5" that i am gonna mount in the oem intercooler location. It may be overkill but I figured it would cool easier and also gain some extra coolant volume. The stack will be the same thickness and will mount in the same way as the original. I want this setup to be as compact as the factory stuff. I also put mounted the passenger side battery to the frame under cab. I will post pictures up of what i have so far in the next few days. Also cost wise i have about $600 with everything so far but i bought the water to air cooler used from a puller on this forum 2 years ago.

How much water flow should we be looking at for a DD or street application? Mine has a double core A/W, so it would be running 27.5 GPM per core with a 55 GPM pump for 10 GPM each from a 20GPM pump. Would the 55 GPM pump be overkill due to the size of a radiator and surge tank Would be limited to and the actual amount of water in the system.

I would want probably more than less. Both in flow and volume to allow for heat soak. Probably a min of 25gpm would do it. Per cooler. But I don't know anyone personally using w/a in a street application either. I shied away from it due to the heat soak issues Mick had years ago but his climate is consistently much warmer than mine also.

I am gonna make a reservoir that sits in place of the drivers side battery that im hoping to hold 10-15 liters and then with the full size rad that I am gonna use which I figure holds another 4 liters should be lots especially since the rad is huge compared to most setups I have seen pictures of. I am unsure if i am gonna keep the stock engine fan or switch to 2 taurus fans yet though.
