Strange Shuddering

Hey all. I have an 07 classic sierra and sometimes when I get into the throttle and hit 3000 RPMs the truck will kind of lurch back and lose all power for a second. It feels like a giant shudder or something. Hoping it isnt expensive or something catastrophic. Any thoughts? Truck has ~143,000 miles. Banks power package only used on "level 3" and I really dont beat on my truck. This is SCARY when merging.

Does it only do it 1 time and then go away or keep doing it? I don't know much about converters but my truck did something like that before I put a fuel pump on it. It was draining the fuel rails under heavy throttle and would surge pretty bad.

It'll do it once and stop then I get power back after a second. It shifts great otherwise. Only during HEAVY acceleration will this happen.

Check the fuel filter and wif sensor for leaks. Do you have a lift pump? My truck shutters in 5 th but its a constant deal and does get all crazy like your describing. I believe my shutter is from clutch pack on it way out.

Gulp. Be gentle with me....whats that mean as far as checking/repairing it?

If it only happens during hard acceleration in big tunes then it is most likely the converter having trouble locking up. This is the reason we switch to billet triple discs converters when building a trans. Don't be alarmed, I drove mine with the shuddering for 2 years before it got bad enough for me to yank it out...

Ok thanks. If I wanted to upgrade and fix it what would that run me about?

And thanks again for the help guys I really appreciate the knowledge you experienced guys give us new guys.

Probably not the converter. Converters usually shudder when you lug them in a high gear with allot of torque. I've never seen one shudder at 3000 rpms, possible but not likely.

I would put a scanner on the truck and start checking everything before I started spending money blindly.

Agreed...

Proper diagnosis is impossible thru the Internet. Get someone with knowledge about these trucks to scan it...

My TC would only shudder at high rpm in big tunes, it was supposed to be locked up earlier but it couldn't due to excessive power.. Lol..

Is the power cutting out or is the truck shuddering but still accelerating?

The power shuts off and the truck wont accelerate for about a full 2 seconds. The plan is to scan everything first of course. Hoping to meet up with Dustin soon and see what he thinks if he's up to it.

The RPMs drop as soon as it happens and the truck lurches enough to whip my head around. No codes, and it doesnt sound/feel like its during a shift, just at WOT when I hit right about 3000 it is like BAM! Scares the HELL out of me.

Hey Mike, would it be possible that his issue is something to do with a safe mode in the computer shutting power down to allow the TC to lock then give it power back? Almost a pre limp mode...? Just thinking out loud here. Is it a certain speed or only when it WOT?

Sent from a greasy hand under the hood of my buddys truck.

Does it do it with the Banks removed and set back to stock?

No idea because the damn banks tuner froze up permanently and i havent gotten around to calling banks. I was told the tune stays on unless you intentionally set it back to stock. Is that true? Otherwise my belief is that it is in "3". 1 is stock, 2 is econ and 3 was a very mild tune.
