Straight pipe or muffler???

Diamond Eye and others make a down pipe. It is not needed unless you do a lot of heavy towing or until you upgrade the turbo. A five inch system with the muffler will still drone at certain speeds and will make it hard to talk on the phone or drive long distances if the drone occurs at your cruising speed. I recommend a four inch stainless system with a muffler. The mufflers are not restrictive and don't reduce power. Sound is still good with the muffler outside the truck. If you want noise go with the straight pipe.

I've had straight and muffled, it is really personal preference.
I liked the sound of the straight but the drone was too much at times. The muffled isn't nearly as loud but I can hear everyone in the cab that is trying to talk to you

What engine do you have? LB7's sound a lot different and may be louder in the cab. I have a 4" Silverline straight on my LLY and it isn't that bad imo. I had the muffler on at first and it was really quiet. I like it loud but it's not obnoxious in the cab at all. The people with open windows in other cars however when I'm WOT….I'm sure they aren't too happy. They usually earn it though, lol.

Anyone know of a true 5"? For instance diamond eye is 4" from the down pipe back a few ft then hits 5" piping.

I've heard that 5inches too early from the downpipe may result in a lack of back pressure. But thats just what I've heard

With the stock turbo and a 4" straight pipe it wasnt bad at all.

Once I went to the 366 it was almost unbearably loud. I installed a 30" straight through muffler and it really quieted the truck down.

With the twin setup on a built engine I ran a 5" straight pipe. At highway speed it was too loud in the cab, very annoying. A week of that and it got a muffler.

i would go 5" so you have the breathable capability for future add ons. and it sounds awesome, i had 5" MBRP with their muffler, i was able to keep it kinda quiet when i needed to be but when you open it up it is like the muffler is not even there:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::happy2:,

my current truck came with 4" Gibson kit, will see what it sounds like when i get the dpf off again , but may go back to the 5", it might all be in my head but i love exhaust tinkering.

I have a 2005 lly 6.6 duramax and I want it louder but not to the point u can't hear a damn thing I'm new to the diesel world what kind of exhaust is best and what are some good mods to do

I have a 2004 lb7 with three inch down pipe to a 5 inch straight pipe with a 8 inch tip. Loud when you mush the go thing on the floor.

The highway drone can be pretty annoying. And the inch difference between 4 and 5 inches wont make a difference performance wise unless youre making big power

I have the Diamond Eye 4" stainless on my 05 LLY (long bed). I did not use their muffler. I used the Magna flo muffler. It really takes the drone out. I would highly recommend this set-up. Especially if the wife is in the cab.:)
