does that damaged anything or does it just leave the annoying engine light on ?

Put the intake back on or it will run like garbage. Not to mention you risk sucking a bunch of crap into your charger.

If you ever look into mufflers, do not look at a straight muffler with just perforated 'dampening' tube, usually the lower cost ones. Reason being is as your flow enters its still somewhere around the same inlet diameter, as it progresses through though it spreads out wider so your overall flow of the exhaust gas itself is not going to be lined up exactly to exit the muffler housing as efficient as it could be. Look at products that entail designs that direct flow well and also dampen some if you decide to.
