LB7: Stock turbo ?s

What is a safe amount of shaft play in a stock lb7 turbo? Mine has a sh**load and I'm pretty sure it's leaking oil. I have an opportunity to buy a stock used one with 120k miles for $150, just want to know how to check if it's in good shape and is that a fair price?

A little bit of up and down and pretty much no in and out play at all.

IIRC your not sapposed to have any in and out play on the shaft ,just a little up and down play not sure on a dial indicator though,this was what i was told, the one in my truck now has slight up and down ,and zero in and out on the shaft and its fine

The one in my truck has a pretty hefty amount, like 1/8 or better up and down. Is that considered a little bit or are we talking little bit as in thousandths of an inch?

Are there any signs of the wheel hitting the housing? check if the wheel has wear and also wear marks on the housing itself

This is all going off memory, I don't have it apart to look. I just remember messing with it back in November when I had the motor apart. I was just poking around Craigslist and saw the turbo for sale and $150 seemed cheap so I figured I'd ask. I don't remember seeing any marks on the housing or wheel then but I remember I could move the turbine around enough to make it hit the housing

yep both mine did the same , i think you will be fine just remember no in and out play!:thumb: good luck. Oh by the way while you got it out iff you can aford to throw in the batmowheel its well worth it bud!

i think hes replacing it because its leaking oil

i will let you know sept 8th if it made a difference or not i also replaced the downpipe very similar to the mbrp downpipe. i felt a big difference on the low end spools alot quicker and sound awsome:thumb:

1/8 is too much, replace it. Also the batmowheel is worth it for the sound, not so much on the power.
