My 2004.5 LLY seems to throw black smoke more than the average stock truck. When I step on it, there will be a good sized cloud behind me, just wondering if any one elses stock truck smokes.

There could be a problem with the turbo vanes. Is your truck throwing any codes?

Dont quote me on it, but I seem to remember that if the vanes stuck on the LLY, it would smoke like crazy.

Other smarter guys than I will eventually see this thread...at least once they stop goofing around with the whole "gerbil club" thing...

Well the PPE will save what ever tune is in the ECM.... So if it wasn't stock then maybe that is why the smoke didn't change when you added a tune.

X2

Lets say it had a tune in it, if you put a PPE on it, it will pull that tune out and load the ppe in...So maybe it has a ppe tune in it already and you basically put the same tune in....If you dont have EFI but a PPE, I suggest flashing in the PPE "Stock" tune in or a level 1 tune and see if it changes.

if you bought the truck used it could have a tune in it already that would be making it smoke (you might have replaced a PPE program with a PPE program) or some other that smokes. If your turbo vanes were were not working properly you would most likely have a check engine lite and the truck would not run right. Best way to tell would be have a buddy with efi live read the tune out of your truck and compare it with a stock tune of your opertaing system.

When was the last time the air filter was checked? If the air filter is stock and dirty as hell it will smoke.

EFI is the only way you are going to be able to tell if the stock ECU parameters are truly stock. If you know someone that has EFI Live then have the read your ECU and compare it for you.

I've checked the air filter its good and still has not thrown any codes. I'll try to find someone with EFI and see whats going on. Thanks for all the answers. :thumb:
