Without a dyno or an expert assistant, I'm limited as to what I can test easily.

I captured a pulse in WOT 3rd gear with a OEM tune in Blue.

Peak sustained pressure was 1600PSI.

I am lost here and sorry to post though budding in with questions-

do you mean 1600 PSI rail pressure? I am kinda lost here.... smack me down if you will- though if indeed its rail pressure that seems a BIT low to me... if not, disregard my dumbarse!

When I fist seen the thread title, I was thinking what the heck is Pat doing now and how did he get 1600psi of boost:rofl:

This cylinder press testing is very cool stuff,Im so glad we are starting to see some of it!

Thanks for shareing Pat;)

No such thing as a dumb question. Nobody was born with knowledge, we learn.

I have a gadget plugged into the glowplug hole that is watching the pressure of the burning gases while the truck is running. It checks the pressure 150,000 times per second. This will hopefully give us insight as to what a diesel engine wants and how to avoid bending rods, blowing headgaskets, and cracking pistons.

Our fuel rail pressure is roughly 4000 PSI at idle, and up to 26,000PSI under full open, high RPM on a stock LBZ. We program this even higher for racing.

ah, thanks mcrat! learn more every day!

so since i dont have any glowplugs, i cant get one of these special sensors? :( Oh well, my engines goin to hell as it is, with nearly 300k miles on it...

as far as the CR tech goes, that stuff impresses me all the freakin time. it kinda scares me also though.....

This is how nieve i am,but your dodge doesnt have glowplugs??

As far as common rail its really not new tech, but it is the wave of the futre....you stike me as a wise man learning all the ends of each motor and abilitys,So dont be scared of CR learn it and you will be better in the end! The ability to inject to each injector is a good thing....the P-Pump is also good learn both and remeber knowlege is power:)

Under a big a$$ rock...
You been playing much with yours Bentley?

Apparently my intercooler piping hit my sensor and broke it in two... I think my adapter was poorly designed. One way or another I am still waiting for a new sensor and adapter.

Pat, if you don't mind me asking. Could you post a picture of your adapter and how it was made? I have 2 machine shops in Reno working on making me new ones to my specifications but would love to see some other ideas.

Is Kat going to let you test how much psi the stock rods will take:D. Would be really nice to see what changes affect pressures in what ways.

do glow plugs look remotely like spark plugs? i grew up on GM diesels (dad and his friends had em) though it was before i was really interested in motors, so i never paid close attention to parts when he worked on things, was more of the gopher kid. lol

Not to hijack, but...

Wow... I had NO idea Cummins didn't use glowplugs, at all. How the @%$@ do they start? They have to be plugged in any time the mercury hits 50 or below, or is the compression just that high?
