Well I installed the blocker plate and wow it's like a new truck no smoke and has more pep and I can hear the turbo more again. So the egr valve must have been blowing open or sticking open.
Similar issues on my truck until I blocked it. That valve does hold much pressure. Some people seem to not have issues without blocking. Others have what you described more or less.
