Ok so i need some quick help. My brothers lb7 took a crap on him and the dealership found it to be the fuel pump. Now they are tellin him the pump is in the tank. I did not think the pump is in the tank on our trucks as i have installed a few aftermarket fuel systems. Where exactly is it? Second question they want to charge him a ridiculous amount to fix. Now am i wrong in sayin a larger air dog 250 system or a fass 200 system should run the whole truck without the stock unit. Cant he just do without the stock and if so does he have to remove the stock with the aftermarket one on???? sorry for the length

you are right the only fuel pump is the cp3 injection pump and it is on the motor driven by the cam gear , it sucks fuel from the tank , if the cp3 is bad then a lift pump will not fix it . It would only be a band aid if the symptoms went away , what is the truck doing is it poping a p0193 code ? lets us know so we can help .

unless he is driving a dmax van ? i would tell him to go to another dealer with a real diesel tech , that would scare me

Hard to tell if the CP3 is bad. Sounds like it could be an electrical issue.

A bad filter can cause this as well. We just had a customer get stranded this weekend because of the filter. If his filter head and primer are in fact bad he could by-pass and remove the stock filter and add a lift pump with filters like the AirDog150.

There is no in tank pump or any type of stock lift pump from the factory - the CP3 is it.

If the CP3 is bad a lift pump won't fix it though.

I have 2 used filter heads if that is the problem.

Change the filter, pump until fuel comes out the bleeder, then close the bleeder and pump until hard. This process takes 70+ pumps on my truck.

If you don't get fuel out the bleeder then the pump could be bad. Pressurize the tank with no more than 5psi of air. This should get fuel to come out the bleeder. if it does then close the bleeder and try to start the truck.

Maybe there is some blockage in the lines or pickup that is cut the fuel making it shut off, and now when they try to prime it with the little pump it brings little to no fuel up?

what dealer, I wanna call them and talk to there service one afternoon of drinking, it will be fun.....

Now that sounds like a good time!!:D

I too would take it to a different dealer, or even a Diesel Performance shop. It's likely off warranty anyhow right?

We should all call that dealer, and overwhelm him with diesel questions.:D

X2, lets get like 30 people on board, then when one hangs up, he lets the next guy know to call....

of course, asking should I use #1 or #2 diesel in my truck might throw thow them off for a couple hours

Who told you that???
There is no pump in the tank!
I have an LB7 and I have a full set of service manuals...it doesn't exist!

Not in a pickup there isn't. Maybe a cab and chassis with dual tanks has something different, but a regular pickup does not have any kind of in tank pump.
