What are the advantages to putting a 4.04 ring on a standard bore piston that is 4.055. This is on a dedicated puller.

Care to elaborate? I'm guessing it has to do with your newly built motor! The only advantage I could maybe see was lower spring tension on the cylinder walls, but I think it would make the end gap big.
The only reason I could see is you wouldn't have to file to fit, there would probably already be plenty of ring gap....
And/or that the 4.040 is a much better quality or cost of ring because it is a "standardized" ring readily available...

Yes it's my motor, it seems to be working very well so I'm not trying to start anything I'm just wondering.
