Steering parts with 8" fabtech

My truck came with this 8" fabtech lift on it and has a ton of play in the steering that is driving me crazy. If money grew on trees id just go ahead and replace every piece of the steering assembly with the kryptonite they sell on DMAXSTORE.com but it doesn's so I plan to start by replacing the pittman and idler arms with the reinforcement kit to prevent future issues. My question is does this lift require diffrent size idler and pittman arms than the oem variety. I want to be sure I purchase the right thing of course, and can anyone get me this stuff for less than there offering it on DMAX?? I just bought this truck and dont want to wear my new tires out driving down the road like this but really dont need to fork out $400 ya feel me. Any feedback is appreciated. :thumb:

The kryptonite steering package is nice. I just got all of it installed except for the idler brace. It tightened my steering up a ton. I know superdiesel fabbed up some pitman and idler supports. The kryptonite package is only offered by DMAX. From what i understand it was made for them by rare parts.

you better buck up and buy the kyrtonite kit. its gunna save you lots of time and money in the long run. that fabtech kit eats idler/pitman arms and tie rods like a fat kid eats ice cream. Even if you put cognito supports on it, your not gunna gain much mileage out of the idler/pitman arm. ive been down this road......

i also HIGHLY suggest you buy only GM pitman arm, ive been seeing and hearing alot of people breaking the new moog pitman arms (doesnt matter if they are the porblem solver kind or not)

Check out gmpartsdirect.com for the arms. They are pretty cheap on parts.

Dmax store sells the gm pitman too.

Just specify to them what you want, they should have it.

I'm running full kryptonite kits on both my trucks and they are holding up mint. Even my puller with 14.50 wide tires on 14" wide wheels up front the tires don't toe in going down the track. I'm running the regular setup on both trucks not the competition setup.

Well got under the truck today and had a buddy turn the wheel a bit. The nut thats bolts the idler to the steering arm was so loose I'm surprised it didn't come off. I tightened it up and it made a huge improvement in the steering but I'm still not sure if that part is corrected completely as i can still see splines. The inner tie rod ends on both sides are completely shot and the source of the remaining play. Any suggestions to improve those as well would be great.

I suggest replacing them along with the outer tierods with moog stuff.

Planning on purchasing a set of fabtech tie rods. Any thoughts on these or alternatives? My inner tie rod ends are shot and my outer boots are busted and probably not far behind. The description of the product states there bigger and beefier than stock and seems to be the ticket considering its a complete tie rod assembly.

The only problem I've noticed with fabtech, cognito, and the like is if you break one you have to remove it, box it up, send it back, wait for them to examine it, box a new one up, mail the new one, then when you get it you can fix the truck. Downtime may not be a problem for you, but I have to drive my truck everyday and can't afford to wait a week or more on new tie rods. I just buy moog tie rods and put sleeves on them to keep them from breaking and if they do wear or break its just a 5 minute drive to my local o reilly parts store to get a new one. Just my .02 cents. I'm sure cognito and fabtech make a great product that may not ever break, but I'm the type that is worried what if it does? Once again I'm not knocking cognito or fabtech because they make great quality parts, but just something to think about:thumb:

Just spend it right by getting the Kryptonite steering setup. Best solution for the steering issue. You won't complain about how crappy it steers after installing the kryptonite.

Its main purpose is to reinforce the steering for the larger tires and at the same time repair the worn out inner tie rod ends. I plan to get a dual steering stabslizer and a problem solver kit for the pitman and idler before its all over with.

you will wear them out almost as fast as stock tie rods.

Love my kryptonite tie rods. Pulled with keys cranked and had bad toe in issue a few times have since lowered the truck. But I have had them on for almost 2 years still tight. A lot of abuse, can't go wrong.
