LBZ: Starter won't crank with key after new starter and fuse

I recently had the issue of my 40 amp STRTR fuse keep blowing. It left me stranded so i tried replacing the fuse like i usually did but the new fuse just popped as soon as i tried starting it. So i tried bridging the current between the fuse prongs in the fuse box with a screw driver while having someone try and turn the key. After one short attempt i could tell that wasn't going to work and stopped. After looking around for awhile i found where the steering pitman arm was rubbing on a wiring harness and had rubbed through to expose bare wires.
After taping it up i tried to start it and no luck still but now it isn't blowing the fuses. I thought i had blown the starter with my stupid trick of bridging the prongs. Unfortunately a new starter did not fix it. I'm certain that the bare wire was my problem to begin with as it was the purple wire. But now i believe i created a new problem by bridging the prongs. Can anyone help save me from my stupidity? I have a 2007 chevy duramax LBZ. Thank you for any advice

Check to see if your getting power to that fuse port while turning the key to the crank if you are then take electrical tester and ohm the wire between that fuse prong and the starter see if that circuit is open if it is keep looking for a break in the wire if no power switch the relay out with another one that has the same part #

TX of course
X2 If you don't have power to that fuse prong check the all the rest of them to see if you blew more fuses. For sure the big 125amp ones.

No offense but if it's not another fuse you blew you should probably take your truck to a shop. Your lucky you didn't start a fire doing what you did.
