SRW 3500 vs. DRW

Anyone have any experience with both? I would like the SRW for the fact I can get it in the garage and seems to be a little cheaper (looking for new to 1 year old, 2011+).

I currently pull my 25' gooseneck trailer with an '05 CCSB K2500 D/A. The trailer is loaded with an 8000 lb truck. I generally end up driving 2 lane county roads. Not terribly smooth. My current truck jerks for-aft pretty bad if I have much pin weight on it. If I move the truck on the trailer back some, it helps with the jerking. However that doesn't leave much for pin weight. I have Ride Rite air bags, RS9000Xl shocks & Firestone Transforce AT's all new this year to try and fix the ride. Not much of a change. I'm looking t go to a 1 ton to try and help the ride.

Thoughts?

Drw

i have run 2 chev DRW 3500's 1998,2004(both long box) and this will be my last dually, next will be a 3500 SRW! current 3500 DRW hauls a arctic fox 990 camper approx 3500lb, and tows the jet boat behind!

dished rims are a PITA keepin the inner flat side of the rim clean(mud from going down back roads squirts between duallies loads rims up, then vibration back on highway)

when traveling on slick back roads rear tires seem to float as they are making new tracks versus a SRW back tires following fronts!

getting rid of the extra width would be nice as well, gotta watch other drivers not thinkin about your extra width!

loading/unloading jet boat always "pickin" rocks out from between duallies that you pick up from gravel launches!makes a helluva noise when they come out, or the vibration lets ya know they are there, just dangerous i make a habit of checkin between the duallies whenever i come off a gravel road or loadin/unloadin the jet boat into a river/lake!

i have a 27.5' haulmark fully enclosed car hauler/sled trailer as well, i have loaded the trailer up and have felt this jerking fore~aft as well over some rough road conditions!

i think u would notice a difference in a long box versus a short box! less chop JMO

just my .02 cents! :thumb:

I don't know but I miss my 95 DRW it may not have the power my 2500 has but it never had sway. If I had the $$$ and was towing often I would get the DRW. But if only here and there get the SRW.

Just went back to SRW and glad I did. I can pull in the car wash to get the salt off truck now. I'm also looking forward to buying tires instead of dreading it.

No problems here washing the salt off my new DRW in the car wash. Maybe find a different car wash?

And I've found when pulling a enclosed cargo hauler everyday, that the increased weight on the rear axle dramatically reduces tread life on SRW vs. DRW. Much better to distribute that weight among 4 rims vs. 2 IMO. I'll buy a set of 6 every two years now instead of 4 yearly. I like the math in the long run on that.

Short answer is yes. Unfortunately I'm having a brain fart & can't remember the brand. I'll try to think of it. IDT its hellwig. Crap. I'm gonna rack my brain until I can think of it.

I do remember duratothemax has one so you could try asking him but he's too busy to reply to pm most the time it seems. Maybe its in his sig?

On the sway bar issue hellwig makes one. I think that's how its spelled. I've towed with both. the DRW tracks better and load feels more secure. But cost savings on the SRW being, more mpg's and less rubber to buy. Not to mention a better ride when empty. If your not hauling often, a SRW should do just fine. I hate tag trailers because of the jerk they give. I went gooseneck and its night and day.
