Spring Clamps

I have searched but could not really find an answer. Is it best to clamp the front of the spring pack or the rear?

The majority I have seen clamp the front including myself. Have never seen the rear clamped.

Ok thanks, I just installed Rancho 9000 shocks and made a set of spring clamps for racing on Saturday. Truck ran a 13.00 last time so I am shooting for 12's this trip.

For the track most just clamp the front. I ran it that way for a long time. You can go to a trailer shop and get a u-bolt and strap for cheap.

Some guys that are just making a quick trip to a stock class sled pull will use clamps on the front and rear from what I have read.

There really seems to be no difference. I tried both ways one day while playing at the beach.

IIRC the rear should be the best for controling hop.

I have had good luck with clamping just the rear. I do know for pulling though, you will want to clamp both the front and rear.

Front of mine are clamped. (2) pieces of 1.25 x .375 bar stock and (2) 7/16 bolts-nuts each side. I had hopping problems in deep snow alot. No more hop most times.
However, if you put it on a lift with the front clamps in place it will push your tailpipe WAY down.

When I had them on my truck they would always slide in after awhile. First attempt to fix it I put rubber between the clamps and springs. Next and final solution I welded the bottom bar stock to the overload spring.

With the front clamped the axle drop pulls the rear of the spring pack down. A bunch. Obviously that's by lifting the frame and letting the axles drop

Should clarify that the overload spring is what pulls down. The rest is tied to the rear shackle

What's the theory behind clamping the front and/or rear of the leafs? Prevent axle wrap same as trac bars?

Yes, the axle wrap contributes to a bit of lag before it starts hopping too.

It helps a little it don't stop anything. Kind of a wast, but their better then nothing.
