As someone who is slowly being surrounded by wannabe diesel repair/performance shops that can barely use a hammer and a pair of pliers I gotta say this.....
If he's a "customer" that means you shouldn't have to come on here asking for basic help like this. Your charging someone for your quote on quote "expertise", and yet you come on here for free help......
I don't mean any offense to you personally. But I'm so sick of posts like this.
At least do a little of the work yourself. Pull the pan and check the filter. Log the tcm with a good scan tool. Check wiring. Etc......
Now once you post some more info I'm sure plenty will actually be able to help you. Myself included.

Wow, ok. I used to do this for a living on a daily basis in a gm dealership, and multiple independent shops, and was damn good at it also... Electrical diagnostics that is, and general repair. This was in full blown shops, with mitchell, all data, GM SI, identifix, tech 2, snap on scan tool, ford IDS, autel scan tool, oscilloscope's (yes reading electrical wave patterns to diagnose vehicles ) and almost every resource available. Most of my time was spent at independent shops, where we worked on every manufacture... I dont know if you know this or not, but every vehicle does not run diagnostics the same as a GM duramax.... The one shop was a full blown electrical diagnostics shop where shops around the area brought us many interesting issues they couldn't decipher that would make most techs pull their hair out..i learned a lot working with the owner of this shop.....A technician is only as good as his tools and resources...... Ok with that said sorry i made it seem like i am in this business for my self, by "customer" i mean a friends truck that im gonna help him get back on the road in my home garage, because im nice, and will save him some headache and cash (no good duramax techs in my area) and i will make a little bit of side money. This is a bit of a hobby of mine.... So let me break this down for you i am not a trans builder (dont want to be, and dont claim to be) if it gets that involved it is beyond my resources for my home garage without a lift...so i send him to someone reputable. Let me break it down for you further.... So since im in my home garage and no longer do this line of work for a living im limited to my resources available to me, (just a efi live scan tool, which is garbage for diag) no access to good vehicle specific schematics, basically in the dark with no flash light. So instead of me toting my ass down to one of the shops i used to work at and take time away from their jobs that are making money for their families, your damn right im gonna go to an OPEN forum and ask a couple so called simple questions to you self proclaimed duramax gods that obviously have enough free time to sit at a key board or phone when they could instead be out changing the industry themselves but apparently they already know everything. Because from what im getting is you want me to go out and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on diag equipment just to help a friend get his truck back on the road... This isnt no hopped up diesel truck, just a guy wanting to use his stock truck for what he bought it for. And not everyone is filled with boat loads of cash especially after already dropping 4k into the injector job I did, so sorry if he wanted to see if i could help him out first. Like dont you realize your dealing with people on the internet??? Where most dont have the damnedest clue nor the money to pay someone, so they turn to these forums for help. Your ridicules.
