Has anyone built a place lately? I was quoted for a water from the county for 4500 bucks. I am pretty depressed right now, I was not expecting an extra 4500 bucks coming out of my pocket.

My question is can I buy a meter elsewhere you think, and still have the county recognize it? Does anyone know where to buy one at.

typically towns use there own meters so the remote meter readers can be read on the side of the house . Are you sure the $4500 isnt for them to run a new line from the main line out at the street to your house? I have had to replace a few water meters in the past that broke from freezing , and not one of them was over $250

I had a pleasant surprise of having to foot the bill for 2 utility poles to bring in power. $8700 in advance, no personal checks. And the kicker is that it took them less than 45 min from arrival to departure. but what really pissed me off os that the one closer to house is crooked.:(

My power pulls were free, my shop sits about 300 yards off the road. So I was stoked when I didn't have to pay for that. It was $50 to run my service lines. When I baught my 20 acres I was told there was a meter included. Wrong I had the county check 3 times and they said there is NO water meter of any kind there. They quoted me 4500 bucks for the meter:mad: to which my responce was not to good. My water line is already ran to the road me and pops already did that, it took 5 hours and less than 800 bucks to do the whole job. Which the county quoted us at 5000 dollars to do that job!!!!

I'm not in the states yet Chris my dad has been doin all my businuess crap for me, and the shop is very close for me to move in, I have been pickin up some really sweet tpys and tools along the way so it will be ready to rock when I am home. I am selling my 88 1 ton chevy and my big trailer for some extra cash and to buy a new car hauler for me and my pops, but now it looks like I will be buyin a water meter.

Maine04Max thank you sir I'm not tryin to get a freebie or anything I will be happy to pay what ever you need out of it. I will call the county tuesday and see what is up I need to talk the head of the county board of water, who also happens to br the man who shoes all our horses and see WTF is wrong with him and his county.

Sounds good bud! Cept the meter part:eek: Id like to come visit when you get back  Maybe we can do some things to your truck;) Hope (but unlikly) i can drive the truck up.

I unfortunatly havent made any progress on my truck at all in a while. My ole back has gotten progressivly worse leaving my very low on motivation to work on it, even though i really want it done. I now have 3 bad disks, and degenerative disk disese, and arthritis along with the scoliosis ive had:mad: And the icing on the cake...a colonoscopy Wednesday thats bound to be expensive. My uncle passed away from colon cancer when he was 25 and apperantly im a mirror image of him, so that has me worried.....Ugh when does the fun end:rofl: Sorry for the OT and my rant:hug: Hopfully everything works out for the better for both of us;)

I saw your disk issue by your avatar. I have to go in for x-ray when I get back home. I have been to medic many times now for extreeeeeeem lower back pain as a matter iof fact my back hurts just sitting here. They don't know whats wrong with me but they think slipped bulging deginertate disk maybe:(. I'm too young for this shit man I have had 4 knee surgeries now and looks like a back surgery is on the horizon for me.

Anyway I will worry about that when I get home. You are always welcome up at the shop man, I'll always have somthin goin on, so come on up anytime. I have the money to get this meter now but I was shocked and pissed over the price.

I hear ya! Ive had this crap for a long time and its gettin worse. Pretty sucky since im 26 and this is what we have to look forward too. When it wants to hurt it does and not much i can do about it. I take Percocet for pain and somtimes it dosnt phaze it, almost brings me to my knees. Hell i take a small pharmacy worth of other pills to keep me going. Crappy deal is, theres no good awnser to this crap. Surgery is a sketchy deal too. some claim a beauitful recover and like new, others are worse off than before. Ive done reading on it and theres an alarming rate of malpractice too. For me, if thats the route i have to go, fusion dosnt sound good, im already tall and un-flexable and recovery is long and hard. And the other disks hafta take the load of the fused ones so there more suceptibly to go out. Disk replacment is iffy too. Wrong sizes installed, or more pain than before, or even wearing them out! Sucks, all around!

Lemme know when you get back, well go have a good ole time!

Are they putting in meter pit out in the yard with that cost? Seems a bit high. I'm a plumber and the rual water companies out in the county can get exspensive. Here they supply the meter with a pressure regulator and pit and install it along with tapping the main. They won't let anyone supply a meter with their setup here. You might be able to call them and see what their regulations are. If they let you supply your own meter I can get them as long as you have the model and size they want if you can't find one. I can get you a price of what I have to pay for it from one of our supply houses. Let me know if I can help.

the pit is already dug and the line run. That is why I have to call them on Tuesday to see if they will let me purchase a meter from an outside vednor, they can tap the main if they want but I would prefer my plummer to do it as he has 50+ years of experince.

Steve if you could give me a ballpark figure that would help me out in seein how far off these guys are.

Dad picked out an H&H he really likes local it's a ilt bed tandem 25 foot. He only wanted a 20 footer for pullin the vette (when he gets a new one) but I need the extra length for the trucks to be pulled incase of breakage. I also haul the tractor and brush hawg between his place and mine.

Cant you just run off the neighbors meter?

Wife got one of those pools in the back yard a few years ago:confused:(dont ask, it only was there 1 year)

Anyway, 1800 gallons to fill it up. Next thing I know my neighbor, 2 houses down shows me his water bill for $300 higher than this time last year!

My Neighbor is pretty far away. he has a 10 Acre plot next to my 20 so he is a couple hundred yeards away. And I think the county would frown on that. My water consuption will be pretty high as we do al;ot of work in the shop welding and workin on the trucks and some local tractors, so we do a lot of washing in the shop.
