On the subject of a lane closure

If everyone would begin merging when they see signs well before the cones bring the lane over traffic would flow soooooo much smoother. It has nothing to do with "conforming" or looking like a rebel badass and running to the front of the line and cutting in. It's pure common sense. If you merge early with the flow of traffic, it's going to keep flowing. If you wait to the end of the lane and come to a stop or near a stop, the lane you are merging into has to slow way down or stop as well or you can't get over without getting hit. Simple as that.

So be a man, get over and keep rolling. :thumb:

Exactly! People that feel they need to run to the front in the closing lane are inconsiderate *****s who don't care about anyone on the road but themselves. They're the kind that will block you from merging when you are trying to going around slower traffic and are perfectly happy doing a rolling roadblock next to someone else going the same speed as them.

Speak for yourself, I take great pride in common courtesy. If someone wants to get over so be it, who the **** cares! Only time i get upset is when soneone starts to drive carelessly around me, thats when i hammer her down and put them safely in the rearview. I tell my wife all the time that some drivers purposely drive like ass holes and this thread prooves it. Haha I'm not so unhappy with myself that I have to exert control over someone else to make me feel good. Hope you guys have a nice day...

Here in MN they have been pushing the "zipper" merge... Their studies find that traffic moves faster if everyone waits to the last minute to merge...

http://www.dot.state.mn.us/zippermerge/

"When traffic is heavy and slow, it is much safer for motorists to remain in their current lane until the point where traffic can orderly take turns merging."

I think we are all referring to the fast paced higher speed situations in which merging early will keep traffic from halting.

Last bit of that article refers to the zipper not working for higher speeds.
