Well I figured I would go to the guys who know how to get it done. I have a jeep tj built to the gills. 383 stroker digital injected 550hp est, th350 with 2500 stall, 203 205 doubler, dana 60 hp front 4.56 detroit locked, dana 60 rear 4.56 detroit locked, 1350 cv driveshafts front and rear, 37" goodyear mtr's , with some of the nastiest mods around. But my question is I am looking to go to a sled pulling event and want to enter my jeep. I know its built for crawling, but I just wanna do it. I know I want to limit my rear suspension to about a inch or 2 of rear suspension travel and keep my rear antisquat up so that the rear lifts as much as possible under load. I was wondering if I could get an idea about what gear to choose for pulling. I was thinking maybe the t case in 2:1 and go in drive or second gear. I have alot of gearing options to choose from.

Not worried about tie rods, control arms, or steering. Tie rods and steering are 1.5" .25 wall dom with one ton chevy tie rods, 10,000 lb hydro assist, and control arms are around 42" long with 2.5" .25 wall chromoly . I built it like a tank and drive it like one too. I can pull any tire 67" off ground with other 3 still on ground.

Thanks for any help or advice.
ps I know a diesel would be better choice for engine, maybe next year

What does the jeep weigh? Most dmaxs pull in 4lo 3rd gear. Around 20-28mph. Depending on truck and track. Whats the motor save to turn to rpm wise in uour jeep? Id also come up with some weigh to add weight if it was me.

Diesel pick up would be alot better choice, not just the motor. It comes down to frame, wheel base, and over all weight. Many gas engines pull just fine in sled pullin. The keys to sled pullin are set up. Many trucks win every week that are under powered.

I can get on a scale this week. But I can tell you its prob at least 4300lbs , I was talking about putting a diesel in my jeep. The frame has alot of .25 plate added for crossmembers and gussets. I am 100" wheelbase. Not trying to just build a puller, just want to show up some trucks with a jeep. since I am a auto 4 low in drive? My engine is built for torque. I have a custom tpi manifold with 1000cfm and huge long runners, 11:1 compression, kenny detweiler cnc heads, forged internals, all eagle internals balanced. I can turn 6200 rpm all day.

I dont think 4 low will give enough wheel speed. in 4 low in drive i think im at 74:1 crawl ratio. or close

with my double triangulated 4 link and adjustable antisquat I have no wheel hop issues also. which helps out alot.

Make it as heavy as they allow you, add the weight towards the front and limit suspension travel on both axles. Make sure your receiver hitch thing can handle all that stress

u need to be at about a 14:1 ratio..x2 on weight & travel...if u can pick the ratio that will net to a top speed of 30mph at what ever rpm you want to turn the engine...

just my 2 cents

Biggest obstacle is goin to be your jeep(very light weight). Id definitely make a weight bar or.something to add weight to front and a decent hitch. Soft suspension and articulation is the opposite of what u want for pulling. Suspension stops and weight bar would help u for sure.

X2 on 37s being kinda large for what i wanna do.

I would try to find 33s if i were you that Dana 60 won't like the 37s I know how much is into the rear of my twd truck to keep the Dana 60 from blowing with 38s... It's not worth it better off changing the tires.

Around here in ct they usually run a 1/4 ton gas class that allowes for blazers, toyotas, Dakota's, s10s and other small trucks to pull. There is a guy that pulled his YJ and it would beat all the little trucks. It was lifted on 35s with a 350 running Dana 44s.

Yeah i could see a class just for small trucks but hes wanting to show some trucks up. Thats where hes goin to need to make and set up a fews things to even compete. Least around here in wisconsin, small block class/big block class are strong trucks.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to take gopro hd video of the pulls. I am not worried about my dana 60's they are custom built. The front is a high pinion 60 with 35 spline inner and outers all my shafts are chromoly. Im going to the ox roast in mantua in ohio. Like a small festival with truck pulls. My bumpers are 2x4 .25 wall structural tubing. The hitch is welded to bottom of bumper. I am limiting my rear suspension to only go down about 1.5" and putting limit strap on the front so I can use the weight of my axle to help hold me down. The good thing is the harder i hit the gas the more it picks the rear of the jeep up because I set the antisquat for hill climbing. I am not sure I can hang any weight on the jeep. Trying to find the rules for the event it is on 7-20 to 7-22. I do have alot of good things that help out like bad ass driveshafts my front is 42" long and and the rear is only 18" long. Most trucks I see twist them up alot. figured my front is stock size for f350 and my rear is short which should put alot less stress on it. My buddy is almost done repairing his 79f350 fummings. Yes it is a cummings powered ford. I figured I could practice pulling him. will be checking back and posting updates with tuning and changes to jeep.

If u get weighed or tech there, add suit case weights to floor pan area. Around front feet area andby passenger side. U should be.able.to.add.weight being your so light. If u cant hang weight. Yeah keep us posted on how it turns out. Jeep sounds really well built.

I live not to far from mantua and your not allowed to hang weights or have weights in vehicle. They DNt scale any vehicles either. Its a who ever hides the most weight wins type of pull. The last Time I pulled there was 7 years ago. Really not a good pull

well because of work taking up my time I did not get to do any prep work to jeep other than a practice pull against a 79 f350 with a cummings in it. Will post videos. I needed to limit the rear suspension from compressing and front from pulling up. I got in the 1/2 ton class and I pulled 262 feet 4 inches. I had more in it but was nervous on first pull ever. Everyone there didn't think I could make half that. Not bad for little jeep lol. how do I post videos on here. I got the one vs the fummings on my phone and the other video of sled getting sent to my email tonight.
