Hey guys, I have been hearing more pullers talking about running skip-shift trans tunes. How exactly do they work? I understand they skip a shift but what gear? Do they run first to third? I am interested in knowing more about how to setup a skip- shift tune. I am in fourth in points with two pulls left and am looking for anything to give me an edge. Any info would be great thanks.

Brings back memories of my old 98 TA - CAGS skip shift eliminator. Get rid of the dreaded 1-4 skip shift.

you can launch from 2nd, its tough on converters, but alot are launching in 3rd now too. Never tried 3rd but its got to attack a converter like crazy stock or not.

IMO they come out of the hole smoother when you leave in second. I have never heard of anyone skipping a gear, just deleting 1st and sometimes 2nd.

skipping 1st would be the same lol.

I had an old '82 that would shift straight from 1->4 on occasion. Made you wonder WTF just happened. Nothing a $2200 check didn't take care of...

Every GM truck I've driven until the D/A would allow you to start in 2nd by putting the gear selector in 2. The theory was (I am told) that you can control wheel slip in low traction conditions easier. The aforementioned '82 would ALWAYS start in 2nd unless you dropped the lever to 1, but again, money fixed that right up.

I wonder if GM figured people would be doing boosted launches starting in 2nd, and that's why the Allison doesn't allow it stock. Although that particular feature started working on my truck :D

With the 6speed Ally you can put it in M2 and thats what its suppose to do. But I've never tried or logged it to see if its really in 2nd or not. I know it doesn't help for shit in very lose ground.

Doesn't work that way. M will controll the upshift and that is it. You cannot pick a gear to start out in.
