Just FYI my truck will be using a S300 66/74/16 , and a 105mm S500 . Maxed out went 9.94 on this turbo kit .

:coolspot:

i could definately spool a 2.8 charger though, and the last time i priced out turbos (maybe a year ago) a S471 or S472 was cheaper than a S366 or S466. i could even do a 475 (even cheaper someplaces) as the small charger and it would be plenty streetable i'm sure. i thought a lot about buying Rob Hall's twins if this is the route i was gonna take, but i didnt want to be a copycat. He has them, Jay has them, and i'm sure others too. if i do twins they will be "Budget Big Twins" similar to those sets.

No it's wasn't a 55/33, much bigger but it's been sold and Nathan is fabbing a bigger set for this this year. But I can't tell you what it is because he won't tell me.:D

I run a custom 480 done by Brayden. They machine the housing on both sides I think and play with the wheels. I only drove it a short time on the street and it was a little laggy when it lite it was ON! I about wrecked the truck which has never happened before. I have my shift points moved up a bunch so for me it wasn't bad to drive but it takes some changes. Everybody has a different view of what's driveable. I'm not sure if it makes 1k or not but I can assure you with the new sticks and the 480 vs. the 475 it is night and day. Jeff

I love my twins, i put them for sale just because i miss the dirt, and was thinking of going back to pulling this year, but since they didnt sell, i think im going to stick to drag racing, especially since i already have it setup (not the the extreme Trent has...yet :D) but with the cage and all. The only reason i would go back to a single is if i went back to pulling.

thanks Jeff, you didn't have any bigger headers/uppipes? the S480 i am considering is built by Gillette, probably very similar to what Fleece does. i would probably be running 100% over lly injectors from either Socal or F1since i am switching to lly heads.

also, did you almost wreck the truck on the street or strip? what was the smallest tune you could run?

Again, thanks guys

I would be far more concerned about going fast than being a copycat, if something works "no sence re-inventing the wheel" JMOP .
Cheaper is kinda a relitive term because by the time you wategate the said chargers the price difference closes rapidly if you use quality parts . Either way best of luck , sounds like your set on going Big whether its needed or not and should be a cool project . A Single and Nitrous is a very ecinomic way to go fast , and there is no right or wrong solution for turbo's just have to decide a few things

A . what HP you want to make
B. Budget
C. what comprimises your will to make for drivability even if you talking about ease of staging on a race only rig , consistancy wins races so ease of spooling really helps IMOP
D. if you want fuel only or spray ?

They also make an S300 that's a 71/74/66 with a stainless housing and big internal wastegate - even if it's a little more money it's a lot easier to set it up. That would be similar to what Trent is running but with a bigger 2.8 compressor.

S480 by itself would get you in the 10s at that weight - an S475 got me very close so far and should be in the 10s with a little better suspension and alot better slicks. With spray I would run a looser housing or even step up to an 87mm turbine and if you can externally wastegate it that would be even better. I don't like the thought of spray because it is harder to be consistant.

i just kind-of frown upon the S300 in this situation of big twins because the cartridge is a lot smaller - smaller shaft, more expensive to build, etc. the +'s to it though are smaller intake requirements and less space used in the rear of the valley. i dont know, if i can find 2.8 S300 for $1k or less i might bite, even if it is ungated. there are some pretty nice, efficient gates for <$400. i don't care if i need to use nitrous. the motor is built to handle it. i dont know how much a nitrous kit costs that would give me 2+ stages. i am imagining at least $2k plus a lot of dial in time. i understand how passionate you are about twins Trent, i can't ever knock you for it because i agree with you that they are the best choice for my goals. i just hope i can afford them. i guess i need to figure out some prices for an S110 or an alternative. i wouldnt mind using a Holset HX82 like Mika used either.

i also realize i probably wont even have a chance at competing with a lot of this coming year's SS trucks. i might make it to the last few races if i am lucky. so essentially this is a build for the 2011 season. LOL. geez that is unmotivating.

thanks guys for the input

( I dont know if i would call it passioninate but they let me have a wicked fast truck that was still able towed my 5ther @ 9k elevation with dual C's and decent size sticks 2 weeks before i ran 11.0 , a tune change and weight reduction nothing else needed to be switched )

I wont be the fastest Pro Street truck by far but i will be out racing regaurdless :thumb:

how much boost are you planning on making with your new set trent? you're staying with standard studs, and at this point that's what i've got unless i tell Tony otherwise.

what is the pricing difference between the standard studs and the newer improved bigger ones? I heard they were about $1300? Never priced myself just heard that and wondering if it's true? im sure my regular ones will be good for my goal of 60 PSI.... but just wondering what the cost is for the better ones.....

The fancy ones are about double the cost of the standard head studs. IIRC Socal has some even bigger ones but I don't know their cost. You can run 60 psi with stock.

Same here. Not sure if mine will see 90 or not, but I think it should be close to 80.

Guy has some 14mm studs that require machining to be used. The actual price of the studs are just a little more than the standard studs, but once you add in the price of machining, they're about the same as the fancy 12mm studs (stock size). The benefit is the 14mm studs can be torqued quite a bit higher and are a lot beefier.

Just bought a set from Guy. Around $1500.00. I bought some other pieces so it may be off a little.
