I think most of use are running singles. My answer maybe different if I did have twins or triples, but I don't. Are you running a stack?

No, but I am seriously considering putting one on. I do not want something with in cab drone though. Right now it is pretty quiet with 5" exhaust and Aero turbine muffler. I feel that a stack would help with intermediate throttle smoke getting on people. People do not like smoke getting in their way when driving.

Are all the guys that are saying that stacks are too loud or too much drone in the cab running them with twin or tripples?

Compounds made a big difference on drone and noise level with my ol inline six. A second turbine wheel acts like a muffler. Kind of like how N/A engines have a louder exhaust note than engines with a single turbo.

That said it still droned for me when I had a single 7" miter. 7" CAT stack was far better, with barely noticeable drone. I know it's a completely different motor, but hopefully this helps a little

haven't had a dmax with one but had a turbo on a 6.2 and it wasn't to loud it was that it covered my truck in black soot everytime I started it. every party I went to everyone had black soot all over them from leaning on it. plus its just way overdone and not original to me anymore. but I won't burst your bubble you might love it forever. but if you had a cummins id say hell no. my buddies common rail with five inch out the back gets old. them are some droney engines.

Not too drone-y with an extra turbo!

That said, soot gets old super fast, I agree completely

I like the louder the better...

Personally I wouldn't have a stack on a street truck. My red truck had one on it when I bought it and it was basically stock. It was one loud m-fer. Super annoying. Radio was useless. To give you an idea, when they drove it over here from Idaho there was a muffler clamped on instead of the stack. It sucked. Period. Even for 5 minutes.

The 6.2s were actually pretty quiet.

Stacks get annoying period. Between the mess when it rains, the drone, people putting stuff down the stack, the drone, things melting to the stack, the drone, people thinking you like dick in your butt, the drone.

I have a 5" diverter valve that would allow someone to run a muffler and tailpipe post stack, then switch between the two at will

That is the only way I'd have a stack. Although it is fun to throw leaves and crap down my buddies stack. When he takes of they shoot over the roof :p

Chrisd91 where did you get that valve, how much was it, and is it run by a servo motor or do you have to crawl under the truck to switch it?

I was thinking of doing a single 7" stack, my truck is SOOO quiet with the twins that I really doubt in cab drone would be an issue. I've been weighing my options for a while, but I do have to say that everyone I know that has done one has eventually taken it off. That combined with the opinions I am seeing here has me leaning towards leaving it how it is. Usually you are not the biggest hit to the employees at the local dragstrip when you have a standard rear-exiting exhaust though.

Jan I just saw your sig. Those 40 overs woke the truck up a bit! I'm surprised the track time wasn't quicker though.

Actually, that is a misprint! That track time was before the 40 overs. I'm really hoping that there will be a significant difference in track times as well. PM me your # if you wouldn't mind, I am not on FB anymore so I miss out on all the local diesel events:(:(, we'll have to plan a track day.

You can always use a turnup tip/stack/elbow that you clamp on for the event.
