What are some signs/symptoms of the stock rear axle giving up the ghost?

I don't beat on the truck, cant tell you the last time I did a burnout, but the truck has 215k miles on the axle, and recently I noticed some oddities in the last week or so.

1- about 2 weeks ago( or longer), I heard a random "bang" while driving, it happened so suddenly no idea where it came from, but sounded like rear of the truck.
2- last week. turning left from a stop sign I swear my driver side rear tires were chirping as I turned, as if the axle was locked.
3- Saturday I pull out of a parking lot, drive 100 ft to a red light, right as I am coming to a stop at the light, the truck violently slams into first gear- best way to describe it is if you had a manual trans and downshifted and let the clutch out too quickly and whole truck just jumped.

all 3 of these things happen completely randomly. then nothing for several days or weeks. I have been running amsoil in the rear end since 2012. I drained it out Saturday expecting to find chunks of metal but nothing. I can see fine metal shavings in the oil- what I'd call "glitter". I assume this is normal. I refilled with fresh 75-140 and towed my trailer sunday. no noises.

So should I be looking around for a spare rear axle, or are all these just unrelated?

I did a few big burnouts one day and mine after that it had consistent popping while turning. I took it apart and I had sheared off a few of the teeth on the engagement gear. I'm sure there are a few different ways they can fail, mine was from severe abuse.

You know your G80 is toast when you start having to do a 5 point turn to get into a parking stall :D
