All the stars have aligned and my truck is running strong. I have a new Trutrac and intercooler installed, we are coming off winter fuel and I just gunned off the winter wheels and installed worn out summers :D

The roads were dry yesterday and I was having a blast putting the black beauty sideways and laying down some signatures (closed course of course ;)).

I remember Mike L warned others against burnouts, but how serious is the risk of damage to the trans and everything else? If I'm going to break something talk me out of my evil ways...

burning out isnt bad, its the sudden and abrupt gain of traction that kills your trans. I try so hard not to burn out, but its so fun

Been here and done that. I ripped the splines off the P2 planetary assemlby as it always caught traction on the 3-4 shift. Burnouts are a lot of fun and the trucks have the power, but be warned. Georged sleeved the shaft so it doesnt happen again, but it isnt indestructable.

I say let the burnouts roll Rod :thumb:

Half of the rebuilds I did last year were trucks with big tires doing burnouts all the time. Welded C1's were common.

I would have to think though with little slick tires and keeping things constant would be okay to just burn them off if you feel the need. Doing it every weekend is what really stresses them. Make yourself a waterbox if you want.

This one is from the early days. My tires were bald and my trans kit was in the shop. Rough less than 1 year old concrete, dry, letting it shift a lot, very very hard on it I would guess.

This one was probably a little easier on it with skinny tires, but the speedo was pegged for most of it, only reason I let off was due to the speed and the rear kicked to the side a bit. I still wouldn't do one more often than once a year though. I can't get it to start from the right time, just fast forward to 2:50

It was a lot quieter inside, I liked it. The color turned out wrong. The test piece we did was a deep blue that color shifted to green, for whatever reason it just turned out turquoise and :gayflag:

I was under the impression that as long as you "rode" out the burnout it wasn't too much of an issue. Meaning if you start a burnout, continue until you your vehicle speed catches up to the tire speed. Do a larger burnout then just letting off the gas, like like coming out of a waterbox then staging was the real killer.

ive been doing it more times than i should cause my rear tires are just about shot. I lit them up a few times this past weekend but its been a long time since i did that. mostly its me rolling into 2nd after the converter locks and then they spin the rest of the way through 2nd and just short of it shifting to 4th. New tires will hopefully stop most of that cause i hate having to use 4wd to do any kind of digs anymore :(

I don't do much for burnouts, but I like to drift around corners. I will get on it in second and slide the assend out on it for a little. My truck has spent a bit of time in the mud which can cause this too I guess. It cost me an extra $1500 for parts on my build. None of the planetaries had any teeth left. Its the worse trans my builder has ever seen. He had to beat the planetaries apart with a hammer.

Long burnout a will increase trans temp and hurt the trans. I got very lucky when I tore down my lly. The valve body bolts were extremely tight and I thought they were going to snap when we were pulling them out, so along with the other things mentioned the valve body is a concern too.

any burn out is not good for the trans period FYI.

This is exactly the dilemma inside my head  Kris :lildevil: vs James

That's what I'm doing too, no power braking. It's just awesome to push that big truck down the road to the left and right.

I have done plenty of wrenching the last 8 months building the 1/2 ton, and blackie has had a transfer case re&re, rear diff rebuild, new intercooler and more. I'm going to try and be nice so I can enjoy it for a bit. Really really try ;)
