LB7: should dealer cover injector cost?

Well I recently bought my 02 duramax and this past weekend I had injector failure, rough idle, tons of fuel in oil etc. The reason I bought this truck was because in September 2011 the previous owner had dealer installed injectors and injection pump. Which are covered by 12 month warranty. I called dealer yesterday to get the ball rolling on the warranty replacement, the dealer then told me that according to his records it looked like only 2 injectors had been replaced and that it was prob one of the older ones that failed. I ask if he could give me the injector numbers so I could see which one failed, he said they didn't record the ones they replaced. Am I wrong to think they should cover repair since they failed to properly document which injectors they replaced? I am still waiting to hear from service manager. Thoughts?

Thats hard to believe they don't know which ones the replaced. When they did the diagnostics they must have recorded their findings. For instance #3 and number 8# cylinders were out of spec.

The assumption is that they did only replace 2 and not all 8 under warranty. So chances are that different injectors could have gone bad. If the ones they replaced went bad again.highly unlikely so soon then they should offer some credit towards the fix I would hope.

Good luck

X2 They should have recorded EXACTLY which ones they replaced. That is part of their paper trail for the GM parts warranty. Sometimes it helps to go down there in person instead of using the phone.

I have never had to deal with this issue, but a parts warranty may not be transferable to the new owner. :(

I also agree with Mackin that the new injectors are probably still good, and an older one(s) failed.

That's crazy they'd do all that labor tearing both sides down just to do one injector on each side

If thats all the customer can afford, you bet thats what they do. Not to mention, that 12k 12 month warrenty is only good for the part, you still pay labor ;)

That sucks, it sounds like the previous owner misrepresented what had been done to the truck. Did he tell you that all 8 injectors had been replaced? What about some paperwork from the previous owner?

Yeh I would say so, the whole reason I was willing to buy lb7 was because of recent injectors and injection pump. Owell nothing I can do now. The previous owner had paperwork stating injectors and pump replacement, I did call him and he claims he was led to believe by dealer all were done.
