LB7: Shocks? Leafs? Other?

Good Morning

Here's whats going on...

I have a 2002 2500HD Crew Cab that, over the weekend, has developed a new sound, or condition, whichever you prefer.

The roads here in Mid-Michigan are terrible, and all the moisture getting under the cracks in the road and freezing and thawing and freezing has caused the roads to be VERY rough, which I believe has caused my problem. Here's whats going on.

When I'm driving and hit a bump with the back axle, i have this thud sound, or rattling that sounds like its coming from the passenger's side near the rear wheel area. And, although it may just be psychosomatic, it looks as if that side of the truck, in that corner, may be sagging a bit.

I climbed up on the bumper on that corner, and when I bounce on it, I hear a clanging or rough squeaking, but when i bounce on the drivers side, it goes away.

My question is, is the the Shock that's bad? Leaf Spring? what could it be?

I'd say check the bushings on the leaf Springs and the bushings on the shocks. Might as well check cab mounts too.

Right here^^^ I thought I had bad shocks but turned out to be loose cab mount bolts, after snugging them up it came back after a while and I ended up going with the newer replacement mounts in the bulletin

Well. After getting home and looking under the truck, the results were immediate. The rear passenger spring shackle had rusted through sending the leaf right to the bottom of my bed. Needless to say, there's a nice little dent where the spring hit it.

Called around for parts, AutoZone, O'Reiley's, CarQuest and Napa, and nobody has the shackle, and the only one that can get it, Napa, will have it today for me, supposedly.

Whoa. Glad you caught that one sooner than later!

had the same thing happen a couple years ago, I knew what it was as soon I heard the bang & the right rear dropped
those bolts are fun to get out

That was the biggest pain in the nuts. The lower bolt was seized in position, and It wasn't coming out. I had to drop my trailer hitch to even get a wrench on the bolt.

7.5 hours, and a few newly learned words later, it was fixed.

I can't believe 2 stupid bolts, removing a hitch, and getting the spring back into place took that dang long. Ridiculous.
