Question: Service 4 Wheel Drive

Periodically I get Service 4 Wheel Drive on my 2002 Duramax 2500HD. It works just fine. What is there to service? I get the fluid and filters changed when due via mileage reading.
does it to mine too when i stop in a drive through and shut the truck off without putting it in park and then start again in neutral. 4wd works perfectly so i don't even worry about it.
it could be the speed sensor or even a glitch I wouldn't worry if it works fine. I would check the fluid if you haven't in a while, ATF is known to evaporative in transfer cases.
Thanks guys. The indicator does not stay on constantly. Just appears maybe once or twice a year. I may have someone read the computer just in case but I don't think it will show a code. I do follow maintenance to the T with all my vehicles. My Duramax has been a great truck thus far. It does have a slightly rough idle in park though. Any suggestions on that?
Had this problem, but my 4wd didn't work... and it wouldn't shift, turn the truck on and off a few times and wiggled some fuses and it went away and 4wd worked again. Never happened after that... so it could be something stupid like that...
It would be nice but I doubt so simple. My 4 Wheel drive works good. That light coming on maybe twice a year does bother me. I will take it to a mechanic I know next week to see if there are any codes. Now and then I will start it up and it's in 4 wheel low. I hold 2 wheel and 4 weel low buttons at the same time for a few seconds and it clears up.
If something goes wrong with your TC, you are hoofing it. Doesn't matter if it's a simple electrical problem or a serious mechanical problem. You are screwed. Yor tow bill will cost as much as the repair and when it gets to the shop ; you will still need to cough up some big money to fix it. So, just ignore that stupid light and rock on.:woott:
