Ended up getting it off with one of those nylon strap deals from napa with a half inch breaker bar. It turned well over a turn really tight before it even broke loose

when I run into an issue like this i usually go on a tool buying spree to make sure I have whatever i need should it happen again.

Although you'd like to don't waste your time going to the dealer I doubt they will take responsibility. They will probably say you need to learn the "right-tee" tight-tee "left-tee" Lucy saying. And or say once you had difficulty you should have brought it in and we would have gotten it off for you.

But good luck if you do. Let us know

Hope the op finally got it off. Sounds to me like the oring was never lubed prior to being put on and that heat locked it to the base along with over tighten. Might want to clean the base use a razor sharp gasket scraper gently and get the old residue off then make sure you pre oil the filter oring prior to reinstall that way you want have this happen again. I've had to do the screw driver method on an old used truck I had I found that usually cheap filters are more prone to heat locking to the base even with pre oiling them. That's why I only use mobile one m1-303 never had a problem since I swapped over to them
