Is it just me? But I laugh every time someone says run a screw driver through it. There's 3 other things I would do before making a mess like that!

You need a real strap wrench style that has a 1/2 square drive, not that candy azz handled one pictured! Put it up towards the base where all the meat is, it'll come off!

I agree IMO that is the WORST thing you can do ! I have seen these oil filters even on a LB7 I swear SELF tighten! I have also been under there grunting stressing to the point of nearly sharting to get a oil filter off! A good pare of those oil filter wrench pliers should do the trick.

I stopped putting oil on the gasket and put grease on it instead. I also hand tighten PERIOD! You can always crawl under there and check for a leak ,seldom happens , and tighten it some more! Just my opinion.

Good luck

My lmm was like that too. I found a tool that hooks to a 3/8 socket and is the shape of the bottom of a filter. At the local part store. Worked good.
Most likely you will have to tighten that hard again. I had too just to stop leaking.
And still does a little .It sucks

Are you sure you didnt accidently leave the previous filters sealing oring on and then put your new oil filter on with its new oring over top? Only reason I ask is cause you can usually hand tight these oil filters and not worry about leaks!

If the old o ring was still on that would blow out causing a serious leak right away. Just my experience

I've have had to pull the filter housing off equipment before. Put it in a vice and go to town on the filter. They seem to only get this tight then they haven't been changed in a long time. At least on equipment.

I had one of those claw style filter wrenches that you use a 3/8s ratchet on before. I though it was the catsass then I broke 3 of then trying to get a filter off...

That sucks! The coolant filters on a few ISXs have gotten the best of me, luckily they will usually pull the adapter fitting out if they're that tight. Not much of an option to pull the filter head off an ISX, have to remove the egr cooler -_-

He never did the last service-just bought the truck used. Dealer serviced.

I've found a good way to keep oil from running down your arm is to poke a hole through the filter in the bottom and let it drain after you break it loose. Works really good on big filters that hold a half gallon of oil!! And then if you run into a situation like this where you crush or tear the filter, it doesn't make as much of a mess.
