Whoever put this filter on last really put it on. Gorilla strength or something. Mind you I bought this truck used at a Chevrolet dealer and they serviced it. I tried everything I can think of and it won't budge. And now it's all caved in and deformed from the filter wrench squeezing it. Any ideas? Btw it's an lly.

Try taking that purse off your shoulder.

I've had some where I've put a screw driver through and still had to chisel it out. I don't know if some people think the oil filter has the same torque rating as lug nut or what.

hammer a screw driver threw the side of it and use that as leverage, i cant remember if there is a tube that runs inside of the filter tho so watch out. dont blame me if it dont work or breaks something lol:thumb:

Put your filter wrench right up against the base of the filter by the housing where it's not going to cave in. If that doesn't work get you a big set of oil filter pliers. And if that doesn't work try the hammer and screwdriver or chisel

chisel on the rolled edge at the top of the filter where its thickest. drive it in the loosen direction.

I did it at the base haha I even had my two feet on the tire and pulling. I'll get some more tools from work tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas!

Ram a big ass screwdriver (flat head or Phillips) through the filter as close to the base as possible. Then twist

When I have a bugger of a filter I put a flat head screwdriver on the bottom rim, tilt the driver in the direction you want to turn and tap with a hammer,i usuly start by making a notch in the rim by hitting it head on before tilting the driver so it doesn't just slip off.dont mistake the bottom rim of filter for housing and I have had It work everytime even on the worst of the worst, good luck.those wrenches are useless.:)

My lmm was like that too. I found a tool that hooks to a 3/8 socket and is the shape of the bottom of a filter. At the local part store. Worked good.
Most likely you will have to tighten that hard again. I had too just to stop leaking.
And still does a little .It sucks

Is it just me? But I laugh every time someone says run a screw driver through it. There's 3 other things I would do before making a mess like that!

You need a real strap wrench style that has a 1/2 square drive, not that candy azz handled one pictured! Put it up towards the base where all the meat is, it'll come off!

I have had to use a pipe wrench on one before... The biggest mistake you can ever make is trying to take one off cold. ALWAYS change them hot. They come off so much easier.
