Anybody know anything about these things? I have this stupid idea that I think I can put a 180-215 hp seadoo engine in a homemade side by side ranger/rhino/razer/t-rex kind of thing and have lots more smiles per mile. I just want to know how reliable/water proof/mud proof/ abuse proof these are?

I know they can take a beating in a wave runner, but do waverunners really ever get the engine itself wet? Understand my question? They also run in a pretty clean air enviroment, not a lot of dust on the water. I am just wondering how this engine would work in the application I am thinking about.

BTW when I mean homemade, I mean homemade. I will worry about putting the hp to the ground.:D

The other question I forgot about is cooling? How do they cool themselves? I have a pretty big radiator to put in this thing compared to what comes in a rhino/ranger. I don't have an endless supply of fresh water. I also see that they are dry sump. I assume they have an oil tank but do they have an oil cooler also?

I have a Sea Doo RXP which is a 1499cc engine that produces 215hp. I think the engine in the Trex has a 1354cc engine that produces 197 hp.

if you want a verry reliable easy swap with alot of power. use a ultra 250x motor from kawai. plug and play same motor in there street bikes. 250 hp and super charged. or theres now a turbo kit available to that will produce 400 hp :D I dont like seado motors as there not very rlaiable. or havent been in the past.

I have a Sea Doo RXP 215hp and GTX 185hp Supercharged and they have been 100% problem free. Theres no substitute for displacement :D Id take a 1500cc engine anyday

The seadoos have a closed loop cooling system and the cooling is done through the ride plate I think. You could put in a radiator and the system should handle it fine. As far as dust, use an air filter. I see no reason why it would not be able to hold up under those conditions. I don't know how the intercooler would work on the 215 horse models, I am not sure if it is air-air or water-air.

Your not the first one with the idea ;)

Tons of guys do Rotax swaps into Rhinos and other UTVs. Were hunting for a motor right now for one of ours it looks like.

Check out rhinoforums.net or UTVUnderground.com for more info.

I have found a lot of wrecked PWC, I would just take and put one in a rhino, but I don't think the drivetrain would hold up very well. By the time a guy buys a premade long travel suspension kit for them you'll have an arm and a leg in it. I just want a cheap fast beater buggy. The biggest thing with the rhinos is you start breaking CV shafts, even the gorrilla's I don't think would last long at 200hp. I do want to put 32 inch gorrilla tires on it though and see if I can make it run 80+ mph down the road. If I can spin them like I think, I'll put truck M/T on it. I would also like to use it cutting firewood and maybe spraying crops so I want a pretty health drivetrain built for use and abuse.

Okay the typical rhino build.

Base used rhino $6000.00
gorrilla axils.......$1200.00
long travel susp.$3000.00 (shocks?)
wheels and tires$1500.00
Wrecked PWC $2000.00

TOTAL $13700.00

My build The dream?

Wrecked PWC $2000 1000
Suzuki Samurai $ 500 (500)
Wrecked Buick $ 100 (100)
Wheels/Tires $1500 1200
Other Parts $1000 200
Long Travel Susp$3000 1500

TOTAL $8100.00 4500-600 I already have for a total out of pocket at 3900.00 for a sweet machine.

The big thing is I want all wheel independant suspension, and I am not sure what drivetrain to use. I was thinking about usings the drivetrain and some suspension components from a Honda CRV SUV. I have access to a nice welder and I am thinking I am going to need to purchase a wrecked PWC, some aluminum tubing, some flat 1/8" aluminum plate and some sort of drivetrain. I was hoping to do the whole project for under 3k which might take not happen. Current junk/cheap vehicles I own are suzuki samurai, and a 88 buick lesabre LTD with the 3.8 GM  So I have things like seats and steering components. Not to mention extra wiring batteries powersteering pumps water pumps electric fans radiators oil coolers etc etc I can use if I have too. I thought about using the samurai as the base for the build but number 1 thing it is lacking is horsepower. 50hp is just soo dull it rides okay but it is extremely top heavy. The tranny and transfer case are good, but I am not a big fan of the front and rear straight axils and no power steering. The good thing about it is that it is pretty light actually and most of the frame and things are already built. A little torching could be done to the front end so I could put my own front clip on it. Tell me what you think.

I am thinking junkyard wars style or maybe just a step up.:D Hopefully more reliable and better built than a rhino but about same size as a long travel rhino. I think they are pretty wide?

I have a 215hp rotax 4stroke seadoo rxp and love it. Only problems have been the wear ring and the trim going bad. Motor seems strong. The closed loops system have been a major improvement over the past few years. Seadoos hulls; however, are junk.
