Got a 08, EFI live DPF delete. Truck pulls 90% of the time.

Truck has egt on drivers side, has always ran hot, up to 1600* all stock with DPF on. Again that is 100% stock tune air exhaust.

What is a safe zone with tow tune and delete pipe. I'm sure 1600 with delete will melt motor. Lol. My ford I have i always stay under 1375 on steep hills.

That's too hot for an extended period. Not sure what a stock tune does, but I'd imagine a good efi tune will run cooler with no dpf since you can cut post injections.

What kind of gauge are you monitoring through?

I'd keep it under 1300°F sustained. It shows two things, temp and fuel consumption. That's burning a lot of fuel. But for short bursts, 1800°F or higher can be seen.

I have auto meter egt and oil, then the edge insight for the rest of the gauges. Just the insight, no power. Lol.

The 08's ran way hotter, my 05 never seen over 1400 stock. I'm hoping it stays cooler with the delete.

Your 05' was a five speed too, so you were turning more rpm when you were pulling on the high way. Ever try to downshift to 5th with the current truck to see if EGT would stay down?

My 04 hit 1400 in 4th gear.
My 08 sees 1600 in 4th also.

As fare as 5th vs 6th gear I see little 50* to no difference on egts.
It's cooler in 6th most all the time.

It's held 1400* for over a hour in the wind. Not to worried since it's done that for 225,000 miles. Lol. Now that's stock, I don't think the egts should do that without the DPF.

Totally agree with this, down shifting should help cool the temps. Man that seems way hot, sure your gauge is correct? I don't like to run mine for an extended time over 1250, I think they say 1350 extended is ok, but not for me.

Back in 05 and 06 we use to pull a 10K trailer up a 6.5 % mountian pass in Montana from a standing start for one mile to see how quick we could do it. My egt's would hit the peg at 2000 degrees. It was for less than a minute but still didn't like it. When we finally tore that motor down due to me shorting all the rods the cylinder walls were heat scored so bad we junked the engine. Mind you I had seriously abused that motor, stacked tuners, h2o/meth, propane and finally Steve Cole's Xtreme which ran a lot of timing.

It takes a lot to get use too. Lol.

I'm hoping the delete will cool it way off.

I've never talked to anyone that has had a egt on a stock truck and DPF on to see what they run. My friend with a 07.5 will not put gauges on his. Said he don't want to know. Lol.

I will know and post my temps on Friday.

Our lmm was seeing 1500-1600* pulling 25k up hills at 65mph 4th gear when it was 100% stock. I put an 4" turbo back, ppe intake mod and tuned it and I will only see 1400* pulling the same hills, same load. ECT went from 225 to 215* also.

650-800* egt is pretty normal for hwy speeds...

I'd try the egr delete a downpipe and 4" exhaust first. Go from there. I'd expect those mods in conjunction to net you a 100- 300* drop in egt across the board with the exception of pulling hills loaded, you'll still hit a pretty high number but it will take a lil bit more time to do it.

Sounds like you might have a pretty heavy foot, as difficult as it is to actually put into action, less throttle might be the key here. Slowly rolling into the throttle and maybe going a bit slower up steep grades trying to find the ratio of gear/rpm/speed that doesn't peg the EGT's might be a viable option.

I never saw above 1300* in my stock tune, ever, and I've got a lead foot. I'd almost think something is wrong to be seeing 1600* on a bone stock truck. Have you had the injectors checked? Did you buy this truck new? Is it possible that there is a tune in the ECM you don't know about?

Yep, bought it brand new. No tuner/chip. Flat ground with 8k trailer egts are. 1100-1400. Long hard pulls 1400-1600. Haven't seen over 1600 yet.

I'm 99% sure the truck is sound. Since it's ran like this since 5 miles now at 226,000.
