Okay so If I do decide to run an S400 on an otherwise stock motor which specs should I run??? And what do I need for mounting it up.

Also, I plan to run a big twin setup on the all out build and may use a GT42 in it.

Would it be a complete waste if I ran a 4202 with a stock fueling system or could I possibly supply just enough fuel to make it worth my while and not blow it up.

Also would I need headstuds for wither one of these setups or could I just squeak by.

The truck is a puller and daily driver however driveability never affects me much. And I never tow with it, I use the other 2 dmaxes for that.

maxpower lb7 is running a journal bearing gt 42 on a single cp3( built motor) hes went to 11.80 on it fast truck, you can run just fine on a single cp3 but weather the motor survives will depend on how gready you are with your tuning . what size twins are you wanting to go with ? got to be big if you plan on using a s400 or gt42 as the small charger. might be smarter to start out with a s300 or gt4094 and run till you build the motor and then twin off either charger they both should have the air to light a 90mm s400 or a gt47 maybe bigger then your only spending money once and not pushung the stock motor till you get it built . just some options to consider . btw mpi's new big twin kit is based off using the s300 as the small chager as i'm sure your know .

Ya a big charger works well with the stock fueling system. I think the 42 gives me more power than if I were still running the S300. Had bad injectors with the S300, replaced them with bigger injectors and one was muffed up so I blew a headgasket, so i can't give you a good comparison.

Headgaskets... if you cross your fingers they'll probably be okay.

I believe the S480 is pretty similar to the gt42. If used as a daily driver with a stock fueling system i'd suggest using a smaller exhaust housing on whichever turbo you choose.

I know tuning is key, however i planned to take a trip up to kennedys shop to sit on his dyno and have him give me a feew pointers so I dont get too carried away.

Our pulling rules are unlimited single, 3.0 twins bushings allowed. Also this year they are allowing open drivelines. So I need to bring alot. However I do need the motor to last a little bit

What organization are you planning on joining this year?

if i were you id go with a S300 if you are going to twin like trentnell said thats my plan at least. dont want to spend the money right away but i dont want to spend money twice. plus you will be safe with the stock motor a little more then if you had a big charger like a 42 or 480 just my thought tho

miketurboinc.com has great prices and virtually every option is stocked, Vortecfcar (nick) ran a S480 with stock fueling IIRC. and my take on the S400 is that with the right size A/R and ETT wheel is can be just as efficient or better than a S300 when twinned. it will flow more and has larger shaft, larger housing, will take abuse much better. as a single you may want to look at the S475 for right now. without looking at the specs at the moment i think it's bigger than a A5K and way more reliable.

If your class is unlimited/3.0 twins, either build a twin kit using the stock turbo and GT42 or an S475. If you want to go big single slap an S480 or GT42 mag on there both have been street driven with proper tuning.

so is it set now that there will be open drivelines allowed or did that not go through.

That's why I asked. :)

Badger truck is 3" twins or unlimited single, with 1ton or smaller driveline.

Badger State is 3" single with unlimited driveline.

so you guys suggest an S475, and im assuming I should go with the 1.10 A/R ratio??

They come with a T6 housin but for $189 extra you can shange it to the T4 housing. Which route should I go.

The charger is only $599.

Would I need to build a pedastal for It??

what about the downpipe???

Im thinking of getting the turbo and mocking it up on the other motor I am getting tomorrow so that it is easier to install in my truck.

T6 would have to be a custom pedestal, which im not sure if anyones had much luck with one on a dmax yet. Yes you would need to build, or purchase a T4 pedestal, downpipe, 3"spacer, oil drain, and return for it, as the stock ones wont work. Arent you coming down this way to get the motor? If so i might be seeing you tommorow. :)

ic ould be wrong but I think the only way to fit a T6 housing is to spin the charger 90 degrees or remote mount it .... I think rick d makes the T4 pedistals if you don't wanna make it yourself, then you just need like a 3" spacer to sit on the ped to raise it out of the valley. you can easily make a nice DP for a more custom fit than the PPE or ATS one's, I have heard that having a perfectly round DP doesn't promote flow as well as a slightly oval DP. for the compressor outlet, because it is a 3.5" (IIRC) v-band flange, I would have a custom 3.5" hot pipe made and just weld a flange to it so you aren't necking-down. the intake plumbing you can buy at McMaster-Carr I bought the thick 5" blue vacuum hose (i think it was $70 for like 6 ft so i had a bit extra).

rhall: I should be there between 4 and 5pm. Stacys gotta milk in the morning so we cant leave too early.

I will plan on ordering it with the T4 flange. Fab is not an issue for me, im okay with it, and my neighor runs his own professional welding and machining shop.

With these resources should I make everything myself or just buy it??? Im thinking make it especially since I have a spare motor to mock it up on.
