It's literally been years since I've messed with my EFI Live. I purchased a V2 to replace my V1 (for tuning support for the LBZ I was putting in my 83) and have never flashed anything with it. I have used it to check balance rates a couple times and use the DVT function but that's it.

Well, the cable on the charger for my laptop failed which is where I have EFI Live and all my tunes loaded/saved. So I had to download everything on my wife's laptop. So I have the latest versions of both V7 and V8 downloaded and updated as well as updating the firmware in the Flashscan.

Since I bought that truck in the classifieds that's wrecked (very minor) and has bad injectors I wanted to check the balance rates to see what they looked like since they are clearly bad as evident by the copious amounts of white smoke. Burn your eyes! Sheesh.

So I go check out the balance rates and all are pretty good except one that's hanging out at 7ish in idle. Shut it off and smoke clears up. Good! :coolspot:

Eric (young man I bought the truck from) believes, as far as he knows, that the truck has a stock tune in it. Well, I wanted to pull whatever is in it out to have a looksee. Here's where things stopped going good.

I had forgotten to update the firmware in the flashscan initially so I got the bootloader error message that EFI Live mentions. Got it updated and am trying to follow the instructions here...

After updating the FlashScan or AutoCal firmware you must also update all configuration files that have been previously installed on your FlashScan or AutoCal devices. To do that, start the V8 software, select the F5: BBx option, click on [Read] to read the current configuration from the attached device, then click [Program] to update the configuration files for the attached device. Failing to update the configuration files will most likely result in a $050B "Script file not supported by current firmware version" error.

That I found right on EFI Live's page where you download V7 and V8. When I open V8, select F5 and click [Read] I get the following error...

attachment.php

I'm attempting to do the above because when I'm hooked to the truck, I got an error when I tried to download the current tune. I can't remember the error at the moment.

Anyone have any advise?

What firmware and bootblock do you have loaded on your V2?

The current ones. :D

I can't remember the numbers now but when I went into the flashscan page in V8 & read it, they were dated so I hit program & they're both now showing to be current.

I'm fixin to head to church. I'll pull it up tonight & post back if you'd like.

Sorry Mitch, I wasn't paying attention to what you wrote before. It looks like you're trying to setup the BBx files for your V2. Is that correct? When you click on the [Read] tab, I think you're getting that error because you don't currently have any files loaded on your V2. You will need to setup your Option.txt file in the BBx window and load it onto your V2.

I was just trying to follow the directions in red because I encountered the error when I tried to read the ECM. FWIW, I used V7 tuning tool to attempt to read the ECM because i know nothing about BBx yet. I did the check status & it didn't connect bc I needed to update the bootblock & firmware. I did that & successfully made it through the check status (I think that's what its called IIRC) & proceeded to try & read the ECM. No luck. Doesn't go but a few sec. before it throws an error code (can't remember exact language) & starts the 15 sec countdown for leaving the engine off.

The instructions in red are telling you how to reconfigure your BBx files. You don't need to worry about that if you're doing pass through tuning and logging. When you plug the V2 into the OBD II port without being plugged into the computer, does it power on? What exactly does the error say when you try to read the tune?

Yes, the Flashscan powers on when I plug it into the ODB II port.

Here is a screenshot of the error I'm getting when I attempt to read the ECM...

Yes, I'm trying to pull the tune. I suppose there is a chance something is wrong with it. The PO did say at one point this truck had EFI Live but that was lost because the ECM was reflashed by the dealership for some reason?

I'm going to go try to pull the tune on my truck and see if everything is working for it and go from there.

p.s. I have no idea what you mean by turning on the "Try Alt Keys".

In your picture from post #10 (when you are trying to read out the tune) there is a check box in the top left corner for "Try Alt Keys". My ECU did the same thing until I tried the alt keys. IIRC it ran through a couple keys before it finally found the one that worked.

Thanks Lee, I'll try that.

I just ran out and checked to see if the Flashscan would read the ECM in my 02 which is tuned with a DSP5 tune and it did so flawlessly. FWIW, I've never read this ecm with this particular flashscan, always did so with the V1 I had years ago.

Off to try the alt keys thingy... I'll post back in a bit...

Try Alt Keys worked!!

:happy2:

Now, if I can just remember how to compare two tunes to one another, I'd like to compare it to my stock tune to see if this one is stock.

I question whether it is or not because it sort of feels like it defuels more on the shifts than my wife's 02 which is completely stock. So I'm just curious if its an 01 vs 02 difference or what.

Glad we could help Mitch! Unless the tunes have the same operating system, then you can't really compare other then open them up and look at them separatly.

Yes, thank you all!

The tunes have to be the same OS to compare, right? So I could script mine to the 01 OS and then compare or vice versa?

Well you can run your script over that other trucks tune and compare that scripted tune to the original. Look up the TIS site and see what operating system the truck is supposed to be on
