While washing the other day, I've noticed rust spots on the frame, and on the fog light grille of my ranchhand bumper. What do you guys use to get rid of the rust and prevent further rusting?

Strip and use rust neutralizer a good etching primer and paint. All these companies who powder coat are a joke, ranch hand, fab four, bradford beds, titan trailers all have 0 prep!!!

The problem is not just the powder coating prep. Once the powder coat paint has a chip from rocks or whatever hits it, rust will start there and get underneath the paint. I rather use bed liner when it comes to where salt is used on the roads in the north. It's tougher than powder coat because it does not chip easily as powder coat does.

Forgetaboutit! Here in The North East with this Calcium Chloride crap they are using now paint powder coating Por 15 nothing can compete with it. All it takes is a spot for the Crap to invade and your done!

I seen fairly new vehicles now in the 2000 area that you can clearly see got a stone chip and it bloomed into full out panel rust! Terrible , all the trucks are complaining about it around here.

My Jeep? Horrible the other day my gas tank literally feel out of it! I just replaced the tank skid plate / hanger and keep up on it with Paint mind you when I painted my Jeep I used Por 15 on it also. In addition the Lift gate is toast ditto and the windshield frame again which was professionally prepped por 15 and then painted! HORRIBLE! If you care about it don't drive it in the winter around here!

Try living in Michigan some time....shoot, you don't KNOW what real rust is til you've lived here.

Truck stayed nice for 8 years, but once rust starts....well, replacing rocker panels is a huge SOB, thats all I gotta say.

Yup thats why I store mine now. Best thing I ever did for it when I did drive it in the winter was oil spray thats what kept mine from rusting and has no rust now.

I think NY will give MI a run for the money, though I'll admit MI is the only place I have ever been that compares to NY's saltiness.

Stress the SEALING coat. Everyone paints something, but, few remember a sealant coat and if you want to, undercoat or something strong like rock chip guard.

Well, I went to work this weekend trying to get it under control. Currently have the only frame painted with rust remover, once dry I'll hit it with black rustoleum paint.
